What upcoming games should we cover?
[As part of Tiny Cartridge’s first birthday, we’re fielding questions all week to see how we can make this second year better. Also, it’s an easy way to get your contest comments in!]
Because this site is a side-project for us, something we fit into our mismanaged schedules when we’re not bogged down by work or other obligations, we focus on games that interest us — that’s why...

How do we make Tiny big?
[As part of Tiny Cartridge’s first birthday, we’re fielding questions all week to see how we can make this second year better. Also, it’s an easy way to get your contest comments in!]
Though JC and I love our site’s mascot, we haven’t made use of Tiny other than propping his smiling face in the sidebar and top banner. He’s easily in the top three of the most adorable game...

Would you watch/listen to us?
[As part of Tiny Cartridge’s first birthday, we’re fielding questions all week to see how we can make this second year better. Also, it’s an easy way to get your contest comments in!]
Yesterday, we asked why we sucked (and, though we weren’t fishing for compliments, I was delighted to hear that for the most part, you guys think we don’t suck). Today’s question is about...

Why does Tiny Cartridge suck?
[As part of Tiny Cartridge’s first birthday, we’re fielding questions all week to see how we can make this second year better. Also, it’s an easy way to get your contest comments in!]
While we appreciated all of the compliments many of you shared in our anniversary post, we’re also interested to hear what about this site irritates you — either mild or serious...

Audio sends a sentimental Sakura Note →
“During childhood, every day was a fantasy.”
Though Audio Inc.’s Sakura Note isn’t the sequel to Contact that I was hoping for, the game’s visual style — which you can preview along with a wonderful song at the link above — gives the impression of a spiritual successor.
1UP’s preview of the “nostalgia-twinged” DS game:

Tiny Contest: Birthday Bounty
With a year of posts now under our belt, we wanted to host a contest that outclassed our previous giveaways and reward readers with the same junk they come here to read about every day. So, to bring in our second year, we offer you two import sequels you might recognize:
Our inventory of prizes (one item per winner):
Game Center CX 2, the Japanese sequel to Retro Game Challenge with 11 new...

A Tiny Anniversary
It’s Tiny’s birthday! A year ago, we formally launched Tiny Cartridge, intended as a casual sideline — basically a way to share the weird DS links and retro stuff that weren’t appropriate for the other sites we work at. We never imagined we’d achieve the kind of Tumblarity we have today, mostly because Tumblarity didn’t exist back then and we still kind of...

Retro Game Challenge for $18.49 →
Amazon currently has my Game of the Year — and soon to be yours if you haven’t played it yet — on sale for $18.49. It’s a wicked deal if you grab a free Haggle Man button and consider that your purchase could help bring RGC’s sequel Game Center CX 2 to the states.

I wanted to introduce Space Invaders to these younger gamers, and decided a good...
– — Space Invaders Infinity Gene director Reisuke Ishida, speaking to FingerGaming. Ishida seems to have succeeded in his stated goal: the game certainly does feel like it gradually evolves from Space Invaders into a more contemporary “bullet hell” type game.

Maestro releasing for DS, DSiWare
Parisian outfit Pastagames hasn’t yet announced a U.S. publisher for its very promising rhythm platformer Maestro: Jump in Music, but Neko Entertainment hopes to release it for the DS in Europe sometime during the third quarter of 2009 (in the next month or so, then?).
The developer will later port a condensed version of the game to DSiWare with a planned price of 200 Nintendo Points....

Multiple: Option's Monster Mix-Up DS →
I find most commercial and homebrew “Spot the Difference” games tremendously unexciting, but this port from Multiple: Option (Game Trivia Catechism, Snatcher Pilot DS) has an interesting history — it’s based on a Nintendo Adventure Books gamebook written by Bill McCoy and published by Archway Paperbacks in 1991.
Mario provides the Monster Mix-Up DS’s...

“DSi Vs Game Boy” by Bryzel. While I disagree that owning an old Game Boy is cause for tears, this is kind of funny. Plus, this is likely the first and only (for now) Flipnote animation with a cameo from Uncle Jesse. Have mercy!
Oh, and I forgot to mention it last week, but commentor Cameron Mc posted a short and cute clip of Tiny riding a skateboard. I love our readers!
Buy: U.S....

In 60 Seconds →
After finishing up my Metroidvania thing for Joystiq, I happened upon this interesting little riff on the concept from this April: William Broom’s In 60 Seconds, which gives you one minute to collect all the upgrades and items you need to defeat a boss. And also to reach and defeat that boss.
Basically, by attaching a strict time limit to it, it simulates the experience of speedrunning a...
