As with Cave Story 3D, this title suffered intense derision from gamers over its aesthetic leading up to its release — also like Nicalis’ game, now that it’s out, Shinobi is picking up generous reviews. I wonder if the developers at Griptonite are now like, “I told you this shit was gonna be the bomb, didn’t I? Eat it.”

I really hope this isn’t the last handheld action game we see from Griptonite, which brought us gems like Spyro: The Eternal Night (GBA) and the recent Spider-Man DS releases. “Freemium” mobile publisher Glu acquired the studio three months ago, though, and, judging by this posting, Griptonite’s headed in a different direction. :o(
