Hills and Rivers Remain, Square Enix’s strategy game that plays like “a mix of tower defense and the world map from Dragon Force where units automatically invade towns.”

This trailer is for the iPhone edition (the game also released to mobiles in Japan last May), but the title will hit DSiWare in Japan on Wednesday for 800 Nintendo Points with a few additions: stylus controls, four-player local multipayer, and options for turn limits and item amounts.

I wonder if Square Enix has plans to adapt Sliding Heroes and Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes - Encore, two other iPhone titles the company showed off at the recent Tokyo Game Show, for the DS, too? It’s also worth noting that Square Enix filed a trademark for Hills and Rivers Remain in the U.S. a month ago, so it’s plausible we’ll see this game and any other potential ports here.

Tom Create’s asteroid-carving puzzler Earth Saver is another interesting Japanese DSiWare release due next week — you should watch the preview videos at the official site just for the terrible English.
