Looking back at an article I wrote about Girlish Love Revolution four years ago, when the otome game’s DS port released in Japan, I’m embarrassed I wasn’t more critical of its premise. Jenni Lada sums up the story:
Otometeki Koi Kakumei: Love Revo DS!! sends a pretty clear message to players – gorgeous guys will only date and fall in love with thin, toned and intelligent girls who are willing to tell the guys what they want to hear.
But Lada goes on to say that the dating sim manages to pull off its weight loss themes without being insulting, so who knows, maybe it’s not as offensive as you would expect from a game about a girl losing weight to attract the attention of popular guys in your high school.
Anyway, a fan translation group has completed and released a patch (Korean version of the game required; not sure where you can import this from) that will allow you to play the game in English, and see for yourself whether it’s a disgusting or tastefully handled game.
Another interesting point about the game: one of the bachelors you’re able to seduce is your brother. There are no indications that you’re not blood related. …
