Two peculiar DSiWare imports

Japan’s DSiWare service receives three releases next week, one of which you can see above: Kaiten Illust Puzzle Guruguru Logic (this translates into something like Rotation Illustration Puzzle Turning-around Logic).

It looks like Picross and Quarth but doesn’t play like either puzzlers. You’re presented with an incomplete nonogram that you can finish by rotating the grid and shooting blocks into empty spots on the grid. [Update: Chris^2 points out it’s a Guru Logi Champ clone.]

I’m not sure what the deal is with the pink-haired girl or UFO, but it’s not like these two things aren’t staples in most Japanese video games anyway. Priced at 500 Points, this was developed by D4 Enterprise, whom I mostly know from its Virtual Console ports of Neo Geo and MSX titles.

Japan’s other two DSiWare releases next week are a calendar app and Kamenin Merchant, a dungeon crawler with a four-player mode, random dungeons, and an item transfer feature for Wii RPG Tales of Graces. Neither of those count as the second “peculiar” import, though.

The other overseas DSiWare game is out right now in Europe: Q-Games’s Reflect Missile. Priced at 500 points, it’s a puzzle strategy title some are describing as Puzzle Bobble meets Peggle meets Arkanoid meets Art Style. Looking at these screenshots, I can actually understand the comparisons!

It’s a single-player affair but includes 200+ levels, several difficulty modes, medals, and a quick-play mode.

Taken from Nintendo’s product description:

“Use the Touch Screen and stylus to launch an arsenal of missiles and destroy all enemy blocks in each stage. Enemies are surrounded by obstructing blocks, so you’ll need to think strategically and aim carefully to take them all out.

To aid you in your mission, you’re armed with a variety of unique types of missile. Reflector missiles bounce around the screen, taking out blocks as they go. Drillers bore through up to six blocks in one shot. Bombers destroy all blocks within a certain blast radius. But don’t squander your missiles; you only have a set number with which to complete each stage.”

If we’re all good boys and girls, maybe the U.S. DSiWare shop will share this with us on Monday?
