Major update for homebrew Shiren clone
Homebrew developer Crow released a major update for Peculiar Voyage: Escape from Cute, his oddly titled Shiren the Wanderer clone. With six months passed since the project’s debut, he’s calling this 0.2 release “a little stocking stuffer for Mystery Dungeon fans”.
The update’s new additions further mimic Shiren the Wanderer’s content and mechanics:
- 30-floor bonus dungeon (herbs, scrolls, and beads unidentified), unlocked after clearing the main dungeon
- monster item drops
- new items and monsters (new vials, three pouch types, herbs, scrolls, Bumble and Catapult monster families, and a new weapon)
- strategy dungeon (single floor mini-dungeons to teach various techniques)
- a warehouse for storing valuable items
- a funky (and probably totally unbalanced) “VialTrial” dungeon where you’ll find lots of empty vials to use against monsters
I can’t believe that’s all free! This should scratch any Mystery Dungeon itch you might have while waiting for Atlus’s commercial release of Shiren the Wanderer Wii next February — and the fan translation patches for Shiren the Wanderer 2 DS and Torneko no Daibouken 3 Advance.
While we’re talking about Shiren, 1UP’s Ray Barnholt recently posted episode guides for the recent two-part Game Center CX challenge that had Arino trying to complete the main dungeon in the first Shiren the Wanderer game on Super Famicom. If you enjoyed watching the episodes but didn’t understand any of the Japanese, definitely check these out!
