DSiWare news out the god damn yin-yang

I loathe putting together these round-up posts because they require so much effort and no one bothers to read through them, but someone has to cover these DSiWare items, right? Sure, Nintendo Life and Go Nintendo mention this junk from time to time, but I’m kind of focused on building the audience for this site. Anyway…

This trailer for Burning Puzzle Flame Tail presents a curious concept: the game scrolls like a vertical shoot’em-up with the DSi turned on its side but has the mechanics of a puzzler. You ignite block groups by touching them with your snake-like form, and collect letters spelling out power-ups. It’s the latest from Mindware, the little known studio that produced surprise gem Maboshi’s Arcade.

Suzak and Genterprise are pushing out at least two more new titles for its budget G.G. Series in Japan next month, Assault Buster (pictured) and Drilling Attack. You can see screens for both action games here.

Speaking of the G.G. Series, this is what Dark Spirits, the 200 Point shoot’em-up that hit Japan earlier this month, looks like in motion. Not bad! And here’s a D-Tank clip.

So, Pastagames is working on iPhone and DSiWare versions of Maestro: Jump in Music, which I called 2009’s “most interesting Nintendo DS import” in my review. Unfortunately, these ports are both titled Maestro: Green Groove, indicating they’re adaptations of the DS game’s first area, Green Grove.

Here’s where it gets a little complicated: the DSiWare version of Green Grove was revealed for Germany. Nintendo doesn’t seem to allow developers to re-release a retail game as a full downloadable title on its platform in the same region. That’s why the full version of Chronos Twins, which previously only shipped in Europe, was able to show up on the U.S. DSiWare shop last week. Because Maestro already released in Europe, the European DSiWare version may be restricted to this excerpted edition, but since it never shipped in the U.S., there’s a slight chance we might receive the full game as a downloadable.

Okay, and that’s all the DSiWare news I’m willing to type up today. I have a pretty cool DSiWare post I’m thinking about for tomorrow, though, so stop by for that!
