Shiren the Wanderer (Wii) walkthrough video. I’ve had a couple people ask my recently what I found so appealing with the Shiren games, which are notoriously difficult and punishing. This video doesn’t answer that question, but it does introduce curious gamers to the roguelike’s concepts and explains that this will be the most approachable release in the series yet.

If you haven’t read the dozens of other posts in which I discussed what I like so much about Shiren, it’s that rewarding feeling of having overcome the game’s demanding challenges. I worry that the steps taken to make this latest game more approachable (e.g. keeping your levels when you die, having direct control over your companions) also took from that sense of reward. We’ll see if that’s the case in two weeks!
