Return of the Mack (and a round-up)
After a two-week break chilling at beach resorts, riding carabaos, and eating balut in the Philippines, I’m back home and ready to resume my blogging duties. But before I begin laying down posts willy-nilly, I’ll share several delightful items from the past fourteen days that I found waiting in my email inbox and newsreader.
- Knytt Stories DS 1.0 is out, as is a postmortem from homebrew developer Rodrigo Roman
- Skip, the Japanese studio that brought you Chibi-Robo and the unappreciated but wonderful Art Style games on DSiWare, is working on two new titles for unannounced Nintendo systems: Light Trax and Penta Tentacles
- Arika’s Aa Mujou Setsuna (Oh Heartless Moment), considered by those in the know as one of the few DSiWare shoot’em ups worth a damn, will hit Australia and presumably the rest of the Western world as Metal Torrent
- Suikoden 2’s openly lesbian NPC
- Perfect Strangers Mad Catz Fighting Stick Tournament Edition mod
- Box Art Disparity: Super Nintendo/Famicom and European Borders [Via Magweasel]
- HG101’s reflections on Play magazine’s death
- Aksys Games will release two new Kunio games in the States, both of which are revivals in the same vein as Super Dodgeball Brawlers from 2008: River City Soccer Hooligans (previously unannounced) and River City Super Sports Challenge (Kunio-kun no Chou Nekketsu Daiundokai)
That out of the way, I want to thank the guest writers who made Tiny Cartridge so amazing during my absence; I’m sure several readers hoped I would never return (perishing in a caraboa accident) so their posts could continue.
Please reserve a spot in your heart and in your browser’s bookmarks for Adam Robezzoli of Attract Mo.de, Bruno de Figueiredo of Eastern Mind, and Matt “Fort90” Hawkins. These talented gents are giants in the niche game blogging scene, and they should all be respected, if not feared.
Also, props are due to Infinite Lives head and 1UP alum Jenn Frank for keeping the sauce tasty at my other gig, GameSetWatch. Her posts there are not to be missed, especially if you’ve longed to read more of her work since she cut back on her video game-related writing last year.
My alternate titles for this post: “Back Up In Your Ass With The Resurrection” and “Back Up In This Bitch Like Whoa”. I nixed both and chose this title for two reasons: using this song to herald your return after a long trip is badass, and someone complained about our unnecessary swearing on the site. “Yes, I cried. Yes, I cried.”
