Speaking of anniversaries, 2008 marks 25 years since the release of Mario Bros., the first game in which Luigi appears. He was just a palette swap back then, but has evolved over the years into Mario’s taller, floatier, vaguely bohemian counterpart.
A Japanese fan has created a site in celebration of the occasion, with a list of games important to Luigi’s history (including, of course, Super Mario Bros. 2, or Lost Levels, which introduces Luigi’s jumping skill) and a collection of Luigi memorabilia. You can even put a little app on your site that pops up a random picture of a Luigi toy (search the page for きょうのルイージ ).
We’re rocking our own HAPPY! Luigi 25th banner. You should download one too in support of some guy who doesn’t really exist.
