Racing against Team Cyclops and other groups to develop a flashcart capable of bypassing the Nintendo DSi’s anti-piracy measures, Acekard Team has announced the Acekard 2i, the first cart capable of running unofficial code on the new handheld.

While the hardware allows pirates to play commercial ROMs, it also has the beneficial side effect of enabling users to run homebrew games and application on the DSi. Finally, Magnetic Shaving Derby on the DSi!

Of course, there’s nothing stopping Nintendo from releasing a firmware update that once again locks out Acekard’s (and other manufacturers’) carts, but those updates are optional, so you can keep using your 2i cart so long as you keep your original firmware version.

Acekard says that the 2i is already on sale, so expect to see resellers stocking the carts soon.
