AKB48+Me trailer. With so much repetitive dancing by so many extremely low-detail Mii models, this seemed to be the cheapest game of last week’s Nintendo Direct. I think it’s kind of creepy the way the faces barely move.

At least with Miis I don’t have to think about creepos buying this for moe value…

AKB48 girls as Miis. The new AKB48+Me for 3DS, revealed by Famitsu, features these avatar versions of the girls instead of the photographs used in previous PSP dating games.
In the 3DS game, you’re still trying to get with AKB48, but in the sense of joining them as a singer rather than a teary-eyed confession of love. Players take part in rhythm-game performances, TV appearances, and other simulated pop idol duties. It’s cute! And it’s something I’d be way happier about taking part in if I were an actual member of the group.
It’s interesting that both Hatsune Miku (who is not a real person, of course) and AKB48 went “chibi” in the transition from PSP to 3DS. What does that mean? Are the markets perceived as significantly different? Is the 3DS for an all-ages crowd, and the PSP for adult otaku?

AKB48’s “Heavy Rotation” in Japan’s Just Dance Wii. Is it just me, or does Just Dance with J-pop look crazy fun? Even played in a tiny room, while wearing a mask?

Okay, so now that you’ve seen that video of Just Dance Wii, the Japanese version of the game, watch this, which I can’t embed: the Super Mario Bros. theme. Keep watching through the menus and stuff, and you’ll be rewarded with an FMV of a person dancing in a big Mario costume. “Lucky Maaaario!”

I don’t know if it’s possible to ignore something so momentously weird as an Ubisoft-produced FMV Mario dancing game. I don’t know if it’s responsible to ignore that.
