“UNME” by Anamanaguchi, one of four tracks recorded at the band’s Daytrotter session. This is the first time I’ve heard a studio version of this song, and it is that refreshing breeze this sweltering summer week has needed.
I often imagine peculiar scenes to go with songs that I like and have no words. With “UNME”, I see a young man looking up at the evening sky and accidentally meeting eyes with a far-off being on a foreign world.
In that moment before his head turns and ends their connection, he lives through every experience, every dream, and every heartbreak of that psychic entity’s lifetime up to that point.
And as their gaze breaks, he feels his consciousness disentangling from his temporary twin’s, pulled out of the being’s body and from the alien planet, traversing backwards through solar systems at a quadzillion light years per minute until it bursts through Earth’s atmosphere and crashes back into him.

Ra Ra Riot’s “Too Dramatic” remixed by Anamanaguchi. It’s not as epic as the chip-rock band raucously covering Gucci Mane’s “I’m the Shit”, but what is? It’s a tasty track, though, and once again proof that vocals + chiptunes is math.

Knife City (Anamanaguchi’s Luke Silas) killing it at a rooftop barbeque in Brooklyn earlier this week.
He lays down some crispy tracks with his Game Boys throughout the entire vid, no doubt, but then his swag goes over 9000 at around 4:30, when he breaks into a chiptune rendition of Alice Deejay’s “Better Off Alone”.
New headline for game blogs: Luke Silas’ Winning Smile Is The Chiptunes Band That Just Might Break Through.

“Prom Night” by Anamanaguchi, a song about prom night and shit, performed live at Blip Festival 2011.
So I tried to record this song with my phone, but it just came out as an undecipherable drone of noise. I guess the iPhone camera isn’t the best audio recording tool? But this video by Emma Story does a great job, and even captures the accompanying visuals by Party Time! Hexcellent!
Here is Anamanaguchi’s other new song from its Blip Festival performance last month:

Anamanaguchi poster for a July show in Williamsburg, illustrated by Maré Odomo and designed by Cory Schmitz (click for a larger image). I am swooning all over this.
The art is based on Adrian Tomine’s ”Super-hero Girls” piece for Weezer, adding extra touches like the yellow Game Boy, Totoro pillow, Wavebird controller, and Famicom. You can also see some Anamanaguchi bits like Frug, the Four Loko can, and band members Peter and Luke (represented here by the lesbian rockers).
Attract Mode will sell 24” x 36” prints at the show.

Two Game Boy cameras capturing Anamanaguchi’s Blip Festival 2011 performance. I handed a card to one of the two GB Camera photographers following the incredible, incredibly loud set, so it’s possible we’ll get to see some of the pictures — but this picture of them taking pictures works pretty well too.
Blip Festival continues tonight and tomorrow! Mary (my wife) and I will continue being there, as well.
[Note from Eric: Speaking of the Game Boy Camera, the new and improved GameSetWatch has a pretty rad post today about a Game Boy Camcorder mod!]

Covox performing this week at the Datapop 5.0 concert in beautiful Austin, TX. According to the artist himself commenting on YouTube, this is a “fairly new” track.
In other awesome chiptune news with associated video, RockGamer Studios will bring Ananamanaguchi’s “Airbrushed” to Rock Band Network next week (which means it’ll be available on Xbox at first, then maybe on PS3 if Harmonix decides to move it over, and not on Wii). The track was first announced in October.
Here’s a clip of the track being played by some guys who seem suspiciously good at playing Ananamanaguchi songs:

“Blackout City” from last week’s Anamanaguchi show at New York City’s Knitting Factory. I haven’t listened to the other MP3s from the full concert recording by NYCTaper (which includes a new song, “UNME”), but I assure you they’re amaaaaaazing. Anamanaguchi’s live performances tend to be! I’m too excited to listen — must write about it first.
The sound quality should be pretty great, too. NYCTaper “recorded this set with the four microphone rig set up in front of the soundboard area. The sound quality in the venue was excellent, and this room recording captures the energy of the room that night.”
Enjoy the soundtrack to your Wednesday!

If you haven’t picked up Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game: The Soundtrack: The MP3s yet, you should do that. Amazon’s got it for $3.99, half off its normal, totally reasonable, price.
Also, while we’re listening to Anamanaguchi, check out some Anamanaguchi vs. Gucci Mane remixes here! Those are free.

“Mess” by Anamanaguchi, the chip-rock group’s new track for its last Summer Singles release. You can download the song, rearrange some keen stickers, and check out the animated coverart by Digital Solutions right here.
That site also allows you to “be a bro” and donate some cash, which I suspect the band needs now more than ever since frontman Peter Berkman was just robbed at gunpoint while vacationing in the UK with his family.*
