Animal Crossing vs Tomodachi Collection: Which is the better hang-out?
[Looking at Tomodachi Collection: New Life’s release in Japan last week, Daniel Feit compares the playful life sim with Animal Crossing: New Leaf in this guest article reprinted from his blog.]
Spurred by questions regarding Tomodachi Collection, I thought I would whip up a quick list of comparisons between it and Animal Crossing, the other 3DS game where you hang out in a town with no real purpose.
Please note the most important difference right from the start: Animal Crossing will release in English on 3DS this summer, while Tomodachi Collection may never leave Japan.
SIMILARITIES: Both games put your character in charge of a community. There is no story or “goal” other than to enjoy yourself. Both games have an economy (Bells in AC, Yen in TC) and you will need money to buy things and unlock more game options. Items for sale include clothing, hats, food, and materials for decorating your home.

This latest tourism trailer introduces you to the various establishments you can visit in New Leaf, like the T&T Mart, the Kicks shoe store, and others.
It also settles the heated debate that’s ravaged online message boards across the country — splitting families apart, pitting brother against brother — over whether Dr. Shrunk’s new entertainment venue was named Club 101 or Club LOL. Finally, we can put those ugly arguments behind us, try to rebuild the relationships that were ruined as people refused to compromise on their beliefs, and maybe come together again to build a stronger nation. A united States of America.

Nintendo makes it easier to post your Animal Crossing: New Leaf photos on Tumblr, Twitter
Nintendo has created a new site that will let you post in-game screenshots taken in Animal Crossing: New Leaf (and in Tomadachi Collection: New Life) directly from your 3DS to Tumblr or Twitter.
All you need to do is load up i.nintendo.net in your 3DS’s built-in browser, login to the appropriate service, pick your photo, add a message, and post. Yeah, it’s not as convenient as an in-game tool, but it’s another sign that Nintendo is embracing Tumblr.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf 3DS XL bundle for the U.S.
As expected! Priced at $219, releasing with the game on June 9. It’s also coming to Europe on June 14. The system will include a pre-installed copy of Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

Nintendo Direct, Black Boxes, & New Leaf 3DSes
Nintendo will stream two presentations for North America and Europe tomorrow at 10AM ET, focusing on the 3DS. I expect the company will go over previously discussed items like the upcoming Miiverse 3DS update, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Pokémon X and Y, etc.
Hints of other potential announcements have popped up in the past two days, too, like UK retailer ShopTo listing a limited edition Animal Crossing: New Leaf 3DS XL bundle, and the re-appearance of Level-5’s mystery black box (Guild02? Fantasy Life?! Time Travelers?!!!).
Who knows, maybe Square Enix will swoop in to steal the show with a Bravely Default localization reveal. Anything is possible if you believe.

These are both available from Play Asia for $19.90 each. (Type A/Type B) I think the sweetly naive Engrish on the letter-style one captures the optimism of the world of Animal Crossing, the uncomplicated, happy life that we all want to immerse ourselves in.

Daniel created this for the upcoming Animal Crosszine — if you checked our page for Upcoming Releases lately, you probably saw this neat zine dedicated to the Nintendo series.
The zine’s co-editors Justin Woo and Meghan Lands plan to release this around the same time Animal Crossing: New Leaf hits shelves. They’ve just extended the deadline for people to submit their comics, fanart, and stories by two weeks to April 1st, so get in on that.
