That guy who made pipe-fitted a custom speaker solution for a 3DS has upgraded his sound setup with a stand and more complicated metal speaker things.

Laugh all you want at this mod’s silliness, but it sounds way better than the built-in speakers. Yeah, you could just use the headphone port to hook this up to a stereo when you want to jam with Theatrhythm, but whatevs.

Upgrade your 3DS’s sound with this wacky homemade solution — all you need is some copper tubes, plastic clips, metal funnels, and silicon sheets. It’s much cheaper than buying a speaker accessory, and it doesn’t require an extra power source. Japanese instructions available here.

It’s apparently “Behind the Scenes With Game Composers” day on TC, but this look at the Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars sound design process is too cool to miss. Gl33k’s founder Matt Piersall talks about the development of the game’s “metronome” system, in which in-game elements move and make noise in time to the music, such that the environment creates a pervasive, dynamic soundtrack — accompanied by Les Claypool’s compositions.

Especially interesting: the voice acting (in a made-up language) was directed by Piersall’s friend and colleague, Christopher Sabat — also known as Vegeta.
