Arino plays Balloon Fight on Wii U Virtual Console

So was the Iwata Asks/Balloon Fight clip a secret teaser for the release of Balloon Fight on Wii U? That fateful meeting is mentioned early on in this special, and Iwata writes in with an objective for the Kacho.

In any case, the transition to HD allows Arino to… point out stains on the ceiling.

I wonder if Nintendo of America would ever consider putting together shows like this, with charismatic gentlemen playing all its Virtual Console games and cracking jokes? I wonder where you’d even find someone to volunteer for a project like that.

Iwata and Arino playing video games and reacting just like kids after one of them dies. In this GIF, the 40-year-old Arino is playing Balloon Fight, which his 52-year-old companion here helped develop way back in the day.
If you missed it, this Iwata Asks/Game Center CX episode was fan-subbed and posted online last weekend!

Rejoice! The Game Center CX and Iwata Asks crossover from last week, one of 2012’s biggest moments in video games according to people who are smart and should be listened to, is now available with English subtitles!

You’ll not only hear a little bit about how GCCX is edited, but also why Nintendo president Satoru Iwata’s father refused to talk to him for six months, and what it feels like to shake Iwata’s hand.

The massivest of props to Nina Matsumoto, who turned around this fan translation super quick (you should buy the Retro Game Master DVD set, which she also helped translate, to thank her). She also promises to translate Nintendo Direct’s previous GCCX episodes soon, and will try to translate future episodes quickly, too.

Wonderful Balloon Fight shirts by The King of Games. No, this isn’t one shirt with some kind of zip-out sleeve — it’s two different styles, both featuring embroidered sprites. They’re both quite different from the previous Balloon Fight design!

These two shirts will go on sale through The King of Games on March 23. I cannot afford either one.

If you’re a 3DS Ambassador, you’ve no doubt played the hell out of Balloon Fight. “If only there were more Balloon Fight in my life,” we imagine you saying dreamily. Well!

Nintendo of Japan is releasing Balloon Fight GB on Virtual Console on October 19. That’s the Game Boy Color re-release of Balloon Kid, the Game Boy sequel to Balloon Fight. It’s basically an expanded version of the “Balloon Trip” minigame, with bosses and a multiplayer mode.

This color version was only released in Japan (as was this Hello Kitty World/”secret Nintendo game” variation) , making it technically an “import” as far as NOA is concerned. I hope that doesn’t keep it from our VC.

Balloon Trip x Talking Heads’ “Once in A Lifetime”. I shared this existential video at my other gig a month ago, but here it is again because I have been playing the fuck out of Balloon Fight on my 3DS — one of the perks of being an Ambassador for the system.

I wish there was an option to play a custom soundtrack with 3DS games, so I could for real listen to The Talking Heads while playing Balloon Trip.
