Important Mega Man toy news update! Toys R Us is carrying the previously Japan-only Rockman Chozoukei Damashii figures, a series of 3” (approximately) figures of Mega Man, Mega Man X, and various enemies.
There’s bad news: Toys R Us is only offering the figures in randomly-assorted packs of three blind boxes, for $23.99. You can also get the same thing from Entertainment Earth for $20.99, or a box of 12 figures for $84.99.

This set of 12 gashapon figures may not be as detailed (or as big) as the Kotobukiya figure, but the sculpts are still really great, and the series includes more characters than just the “Blue Bomber.” That Air Man is perfect, and I want one! Here are the two essential toys that didn’t fit in the gallery above:

These pictures are from Hobby Search, where the figures can be purchased for $73.67. They’re also available from Amiami and HLJ. Unnnnnnnnfortunately, they come in sets of 12, but it’s 12 blind boxes. Which means if I were to buy it, I’d get like 8 Basses and 4… of the other Bass. That guy ruins everything.

If our post about Bandai’s Mega controller for the NES a year ago left you longing to have one of your own, you’re in luck! NCSX has the Japanese version of the pad, the Super Controller II for Famicom, available for sale and in original, unopened packaging for $22.90!
Of course, the pad will only work with the Famicom and not the NES, but how can you pass on these features?: turbo buttons, the ability to lock the A/B buttons and directional pad, an Arsenal mode for limiting the amount of times you can push a button, a timer to freeze the game, a memory function for storing password sequences, two built-in games played through the LED screen, and more.
How does NCSX keep finding new and factory-boxed versions of decades old accessories and controllers?
Perhaps the import shop employs a clandestine acquisition team that breaks into abandoned Japanese factories to retrieve these goods? Or maybe it pays hobos to walk up and down the California coast to see what junk washes in from freighters lost at sea. My guess is that NCSX’s CEO, while excavating an ancient Hori temple years ago, found a mystical arcade stick that allows him to go back in time and place orders for obscure controllers.

I spotted this item in the same eBay shop as the magical Super Mario World music box Eric posted, and, well, I kind of wish I hadn’t, because this thing is going to haunt me for the rest of my life.
There is no damn way I can afford to pay $100 for a model kit featuring a squat Arthur watching over tiny versions of Ghosts ‘n Goblins’s enemies, but man, do I want to. I’d totally set it up just like the box demonstrates, with blurry photographed screenshots of the game as a backdrop, and shoot javelin tips at the monsters.

Mori Games has answered that question with two different pouches for both Federation and Zeon factions, each capable of holding a DSi system, an extra standard stylus, two game carts, the RX-78-2’s beam sabre and beam rifle accessories, and more. Now no one can mistake you for a common Mobile Suit geek when they see you playing Gundam Mahjong DS; after seeing this case and all its treasures, they’ll have no choice but to bow and hail you as the king of Gundam nerds.
These haven’t hit import shops like Play-Asia and NCSX yet, but expect to see them there soon.

Keeping with the domain name’s promise, site owner and Barcelona-based chiptune artist Drop1410 examines Game Boy cartridge rarities and curiosities, like this extra long Tamagotchi V3. Osuchi & Metsuchi cart:
I suspect Bandai used a taller cart to fit in an extra battery for the real-time clock and to make room for the on/off sound switch on the side. It’s a very odd item!
The articles feature excellent photos of the subjects and background information on their significance. The write-up on the Japanese Nintendo Power flashcart, for example, is very enlightening — I had no idea it even existed.
I also like that Drop1410 prizes some carts just for having an ivory shell, the perfect companion for a beautiful White Game Boy handheld (not that there’s anything wrong with mixed cart/system relations).
It would be great if Drop1410 created a mascot for his new site; that way, we could claim him or her as yet another distant branch on Tiny’s growing family tree.

The Mugen Peri Peri shipping envelope tear strip toy is now eight bucks (which is infinitely more than you pay for just picking up a pile of Priority Mail envelopes at the post office, but consider the environment). The Aqua Drop, a maze game that uses a drop of water as its “ball,” is on sale for between 13 and 18, depending on the design. The Tsuttsuki Bako game, an LCD game about, uh, sticking your finger in a little hole, is marked down twenty bucks to $30.
My favorite, the Manner Beans Chopstick Practice Game, in which you use chopsticks to pick up adorable little bean-chicks, is $13.
Also of interest: Super Mario Galaxy screen-cleaning straps, figurines, and Sound Drops. Also this thing.
tags / thinkgeek / bandai / mugen peri peri / aqua drop / toysTotally old news, but I just discovered it: Bandai America’s sole iPhone/iPod Touch app is a free, virtual version of the Mugen Pop Pop toy. So it’s a fake version of fake bubble wrap, with all the features of the real thing except for an approximation of the feeling of pushing on an inflated plastic bubble.
It also has a little Simon-like minigame, and the image rotates when you move the phone, for a surprisingly cool effect. Also, I guess it’s an advergame and therefore deplorable or something, probably.

Oh my god guys it’s a little Ultraman bib/hood thing for babies. Oh my god. The whole Sutaistyle collection: Dorami-chan, Doraemon (cuuuuuute), Ultraseven, Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Shocker, Red Ranger and Momoranger from Goranger. They’re out in Japan this month from Bandai, for ¥1,575 each.
I wonder if these would work on a cat. There are a couple of cats around here that don’t look like Ultraman at all, and only look a little like Doraemon.
PS A bunch of these characters have been in video games — on the DS, even. It totally belongs on this site, and if you were about to complain, you hate babies.

What the hell happened here? The two games don’t seem to have the same developer (unless it was uncredited TOSE in both cases). Did the composer change companies and bring his music along with him? Or did someone at Bandai just realize how rad Rygar’s music is?
