Bravely Default headed to North America, Europe
It’s a pretty crazy Nintendo Direct when news about Bravely Default’s Western release is maybe the third or fourth exciting item of the day.
Nintendo will take over publishing duties from Square Enix, and will release the much anticipated 3DS RPG in the U.S. next year, and in Europe some time in 2013. I would be more upset about the delay, but it’s not like we don’t already have a ton of stuff to look forward to this year.
Here’s a preview of the U.S. boxart.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy Swapnote stationery might be the worst one yet – considering it has both a giant blank space and a retailer logo.
Uh, despite those drawbacks, and despite the fact that I feel a cold chill when I think about opening my neglected Swapnote inbox again… I kind of want to make sure I have this pattern. I think I just like the idea that Swapnote is regarded highly enough to be used as a promotional tool.

A closer look at Bravely Default’s lovely diorama that comes with the 3DS game’s collector’s edition set.

Now that’s a limited edition set: the Bravely Default set is crazy nice, unboxed. Look at that 3DS case! Actually, the whole thing is nuts, from the diorama to the packaging.

Bravely Default is out today! Yes, just in Japan, of course, but it’s out somewhere at least — maybe people can play it now and tell us it’s not that great, so we won’t feel bad if Square Enix decides to never bring it to the West.
So what’s the status on Bravely Default coming the the U.S.? Square Enix is doing that thing that publishers do, where it says that even though there are no plans to localize the game, fans should talk about it on social networks to there’s interest. :o/

Bravely Default new trailer from last week’s Tokyo Game Show. Everything about this RPG just look so great (though I’ve heard its battles can get a bit a tedious).
The only thing I can find to complain about is Square Enix reusing footage for most of this clip’s first minute. It’s worth sticking with, though, because there’s a lot of gold after that first minute — pirates, outfits for different classes, and awesome looking special attacks.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy’s packaging art is just as unconventional as its name. Then again, if this 3DS RPG wasn’t so weird / curious, we probably wouldn’t be talking about it here as much as we have.

The Bravely Default Collector’s Pack looks as attractive as the 3DS game. Sold exclusively through Square Enix’s e-store in Japan, the limited edition bundle includes the game, an art album for Akihiko Yoshida’s illustrations, a giant AR poster, a 3DS protective case, and more.
This set is going for ¥12,800 ($164), and will begin shipping in Japan with the game on October 11. Square Enix brought the special edition Kingdom Hearts bundle here, so who knows, maybe it will do the same for this, if the publisher releases Bravely Default in the U.S.
Also, Dengeki posted new screens and details for the game, showing off some non-combat/overworld stuff for a change and looking at menus for a change.

New Bravely Default screenshots and art for Idea Lee, whose name is sure to be cause for some great puns in the bewitching 3DS RPG. There’s still no word yet on whether we’ll get to read those puns ourselves in the States, but I guess Square Enix already has its hands full with upcoming 3DS releases for North America: Kingdom Hearts 3D, Heroes of Ruin, and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy.

Square Enix and Silicon Studio’s 3DS RPG Bravely Default: Flying Fairy will be released in Japan October 11, in both a standard edition and a Collectors Edition exclusive to the “e-Store.” Note that it’s the Square Enix e-Store, an online store run by the publisher, and not the 3DS’s eShop.
The ¥12,800 Collectors Edition comes with the game, an art album, a soundtrack, an “original protect case” for your 3DS, and an AR poster.
In Japan, this news is accompanied by the release of yet another demo, featuring battles. Having not played any demos beyond a barely interactive AR demonstration, I’m so ready to start seeing more of it as it approaches (Japanese) release.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy trailer from last night’s Japanese Nintendo Direct presentation. Whatever feedback Square Enix got from all those demos seems to have paid off, as this looks hot, y’all.
But who is Revo, and is Revo deserving of an in-trailer credit like that, with a logo and everything?

Is there any doubt left that Bravely Default will be one of the best looking 3DS games when it releases? Akihiko Yoshida straight-up killed it with the character design.
These screens demonstrate the game’s job changing system, which I guess we’ll get into more if Square Enix ever announces Bravely Default for a U.S. release.
