Nyko Zoom Case for DSi.

Yeah, this is really happening, and it’s somehow more ridiculous than DreamGear’s 3-in-1 Flash Cover. This huge attachment gives the DS’s camera 8x zoom, enabling you to give people cat ears and Mario mustaches from a distance!

Idolm@ster DS to use DSi camera

You may have heard that Namco Bandai is bringing its Idolm@ster pop idol sim to DS in Japan, but there are two details most outlets seem to have missed:

  1. Idolm@ster: Dearly Stars will use the DSi’s camera to scan QR codes that will unlock in-game items (a DSi camera feature I predicted!).
  2. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this could be the first Eastern-developed retail DS title announced with DSi-specific features (the first revealed DSi-targeted title is Ubisoft’s depressing My Cooking Coach, which takes player photos for chef profiles).

Considering the widely held belief that DSi-enhanced carts will be region-locked, I wonder if importers will have trouble playing this game on their U.S. DSis or DSes.

From Nokia to Nintendo: Ghostwire

Ghostwire trailer (mobile version).

Swedish developer A Different Game announced Ghostwire this morning, a game in which you find ghosts around your home using the DSi’s built-in camera and mic. It’s a really neat idea, and there are also puzzles and riddles you can solve to help the spirits find peace.

This augmented reality game actually began its life on mobiles, as shown above. Nokia even awarded the studio €40,000 ($56,000) last October for its Mobile Games Innovation Challenge. Looks like that cash went towards bringing Ghostwire not just to handsets, but to DSi. It’s strange to think that Nokia sort of funded this project!

Screens from the Ghostwire mobile (click for more):

Tentative story:

“1903. Guglielmo Marconi, inventor of the radio, claims to have recorded the voice of his father. His father had been dead since eight years. 2002. Globus Electronics lab in Kobe claim that digital signal processors can communicate with ghosts.”

Interestingly, JC and I came up with a very similar idea for a DSi game using the system’s cameras several weeks ago, except instead of ghosts, the title featured ninjas. In fact, we called it What Is The Deal With All These Ninjas.

The concept was that you’d use the DSi’s camera to find ninjas hidden in shadows. Once you located them, you’d throw a shuriken or engage them in some other minigame, recruiting them into your growing clan.

We attached some flimsy Suikoden-style story to it, with a quest to locate other clans online or locally, to bring together all the descendents of the disciples of the 36 chambers. It was a pretty crazy concept!

A camera flash for your DSi →

I’m not sure how the accessory works at all, but DreamGear claims that its DSi 3-In-1 Flash Cover attaches onto your system and is an “all in one solution for taking pictures with [a] DSi in dark rooms or at night.”

I’ve no idea if the flash is manually activated, or if it is somehow synchronized with your DSi — my guess is that for $14.99, the solution is going to be ghetto as hell. Maybe it’s just a tiny light that you can switch on and off.

One cool thing about the cover is that it has a sliding lens protector, which still doesn’t make up for this contraption’s inability to fit into any compact DSi pouches.

The DSi 3-In-1 Flash Cover is available in White, Blue, Black, and Pink. Presumably, it also comes with the screen protectors and the screen wipe shown in the product shots.

[All week, we’re featuring accessories for the Nintendo DSi. You can read more about the clever and sometimes absurd DSi accessories we’ve featured here.]

The only DSi Camera feature walkthrough you need.

Along with the dozens of DSi previews and tired opinion pieces on whether it’s worth $170 (it is), Nintendo has put out a number of promotional videos for the updated system, most of them showing off the significant new feature, the cameras.

The details I appreciate most with the DSi, however, besides the DSiWare apps/games, are the small improvements — the improved speakers, the clicky directional pad, the in-game brightness control, the WPA/WPA2 support, and the ability to exit a game without restarting the system.

Making stuff jiggle is pretty fun, though.

Sony Cyber-shot T2 camera hidden inside a Final Fantasy III cartridge. It’s just the thing for when you want to take pictures without arousing suspicion, as it looks exactly like you’re just innocently carrying a Famicom game around. And who would question that?

We crawl Flickr so you don’t have to.

DSi photog tigeronbeat has a whole set of handheld manips, and yes, many of them do look like they would be right at home in a Japanese horror game. All I have to say is nooooo.

NSFW: How I increased my penis size with just $300.

With several outlets exposing the DSi Camera’s boob manipulation capabilities, we thought it only fair to show how the same software can be used to dabble with some dude’s junk.

No need to thank me, I already know I’m your hero.

On a similarly odd and NSFW note, I stumbled across this illustration earlier today (I added the “mosaics”, so that local law enforcement wouldn’t kick down my door):

New Japanese Nintendo DSi commercial.

Nintendo put out a new batch of these clips, all four of which you can watch here, but this particular one is interesting for its last ten seconds — you can see someone listening to some songs with the system closed.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like he’s changing tracks or doing anything useful with the L & R buttons; the way he’s tapping them, he seems to be using the shoulder buttons to play instruments along with the music, like in the video we post here … which is lame.
