DS/3DS Release Dates & Sales // Tiny Cartridge Stickers For Your Games!

Mario Kart 7 pouch for your 3DS, available as an in-store preorder bonus through GAME/Gamestation in Europe.

I’ve spent the past couple days getting through all of the game’s cups in the 50cc and 100cc modes, and while I’m finding a few annoyances and frustrations (argh, Melody Motorway!), I can’t put this thing down…

Capcom’s Monster Hunter Tri-G 3DS and Slide Pad pouch. It’s not the most attractive case, but it will hold the Frankenstick add-on, and series fans might appreciate the scale-ish flap and emblem impressed on the strap.

This is for sale on the Japanese e-Capcom shop, priced at ¥2,940 ($39) and shipping on December 10, when the game and the limited edition 3DS ships overseas.

We have more evidence that Monster Hunter Tri-G is headed to the West, by the way, as Official Nintendo Magazine published a preview listing a Fall 2012 release for Europe. That’s a year from now! Perhaps Capcom will use that extra time to add online features?

DS/3DS cases by SmileRecipe. All the items on SmileRecipe’s Etsy store are super adorable — I basically just picked four cases as a random cuteness sample.

Each DS case (also suitable for cameras or other small gadgets) is designed to accommodate a 4.5” by 5” and has two interior pockets for games. Those buttons are just decorative; they actually have velcro.

Oh, and while I’m posting awesome handmade DS/3DS cases, whataboutki uses custom fabrics to make some really sharp Nintendo-themed cases, too.

Space Invaders and Darius Burst cases for iPhone 3G/3GS. These are actually arcade prizes, but NCSX is selling them to those of us not lucky enough to be near a Taito Station arcade, and not lucky enough to, you know, actually win prizes from those damn crane games!

I’m pretty excited to see new accessories for my phone, since I’d expect any new things to be iPhone 4-shaped. At $26 each, though, I’m going to decide just how excited I am.

Tiny Cartridge case by Elena You. As Elena noted in her contest entry email, this Tiny Cartridge case is also a tiny cartridge case. It is Tiny Cartridge, it is a tiny case for cartridges, and it is a case for tiny cartridges. This is like the ultimate expression of the phrase “tiny cartridge case.” Please pay close attention to the metallic embroidery on the back.

She initially designed this as a strap/charm — which, she told us, it still could be if it were filled with stuffing instead of games. “Keychains (or phone straps) have got to be the most typical mascot merchandise you can find,” she said, “so I thought it was about time that Tiny was made into one too. He’s quite adorable.”

We’re honored (and we know Tiny would be as well) to have our mascot spoken of so highly, and trusted with such an important task as holding a couple of DS games. We hope we can trust Elena with the task of holding this Reformat the Planet DVD set, a Dragon Quest IX sticker sheet, a Dragon Quest trading figure, and a Tiny Cartridge pin, because she won the hell out of our third prize.

Slime duct tape DS case by Etsy user AutumnSilverMoon. I’m not sure how long this case would last, but it would make me really happy for every second of that time.

This handmade, potentially sticky case sells for $14, and AutumnSilverMoon will DSi-size it for no additional fee. No word if she has enough duct tape to make a DSi XL case.

Famicom gadget case and controller by RabbitRampage. She also makes iPhone/iPod cases modeled after current generation consoles like the PS3 and Xbox 360!

The case, which sells for $30 on RabbitRampage’s Etsy shop, is made of “1mm cream and maroon colored felt with a cream felt lining.” It features a velcro closure, hand-cut felt details, a raised eject button, and a keyring.

The controller is sold separately for $13 and works as either a keychain or an attachment for the case. You could probably ask the artist to create a second player controller with a built-in microphone, too.

While you’re throwing out cash to complete your felt Famicom set, why not also buy a custom Disk System case, and then stack your Famicom pouch on top of it?

DS Card Palette 18G + SD, DS Card Palette 12G + SD, and DS Card Pod 2G + SD, by Keys Factory. You decide how many carts you want to be able to hold, and then you can buy a case that holds exactly that many and no more.

I have no idea why I’d buy a little case that holds just two DS games, since, you know, you could carry two DS games in just about anything, from the pocket of a DS case to your sock, but I… kind of want to. I think I’d feel like I had a little Tic Tac box that dispensed DS games.

DSi/DS Lite cases decorated with recycled candy wrappers by Ecomismo. They’re not only great for the environment, they still smell like candy , too! (They’re thoroughly cleaned before they’re attached to the pouches, of course.)

Ecomismo and non-profit group Action work at several levels to raise awareness of environmental issues and help people in the Philippines. First, they partner with and pay high school students to collect the wrappers and help clean up cities. The companies then make an effort to employ single mothers in poor areas of the country to put the cases together. A portion of the proceeds are donated to support education programs for orphanages and street children.

The DSi/DS Lite cases are available in several styles with red or black pouches, silver or more colorful wrappers, and plain or multicolored zippers. You can also buy PSP cases, pen pouches, and small clutches.

Helping orphans isn’t cheap, though, at least if you’re looking to buy a case for your handheld. The DSi/DS Lite pouches run from ¥3,675 to ¥5,040 ($41 to $56) — those orphans will be able to buy mansions in Manila if enough people buy Ecomismo’s products!

Mario DSi case. Yes, another pouch designed to look like Mario’s overalls! This one, though, is crocheted with acrylic yarn and has two back pockets to fit cartridges.

Clarinda Dotson is selling the handmade case on her Etsy shop for $18. She’s willing to make custom versions themed after Luigi, Wario, Waluigi or any other colors you have in mind for whichever Nintendo DS model you have.

In other adorable accessory news, check out this Mameshiba fleece bag made to hold a DS and other items:

DS RailPouch, by Answer. This case is designed to hold a DS Lite, three games, and small accessories. It’s also designed to look like a train, specifically the N700, 700 Series Hikari Railstar, or the Doctor Yellow Type 923. If those are your specific needs, these things sell for ¥1,209 ($12.83) from Amazon Japan.

Built’s Hoodie Game Case for DS Lite and DSi. I’m unsure how well this pouch will protect your system from serious drops, but I like the concept: push your portable into one side, throw in your carts and accessories into the back pocket, then pull the hood over the top to secure it all.

According to its product description, the case is made with “a rigid EVA back for extra screen protection, and an elastic neoprene front panel for custom fit”. You can buy one at Amazon for around $19.95 in either Black or Nolita Stripe.
