DS/3DS Release Dates & Sales // Tiny Cartridge Stickers For Your Games!

Felt 3DS/DS cases by Etsy user AyameMizrahi. The selections include two Katamari-inspired designs, NinjatownChocobo, and “Beautiful Proud Peacock.” They’re available for $15 each.

After seeing that adorable Chocobo case, I realized that Square Enix hasn’t done anything with that Chocobo Tales style in a few years, after a string of 2-3 games in that style. It’s a shame, because I always loved seeing that cute Chocobo in screens and trailers. I guess my casual appreciation of cuteness didn’t really constitute the kind of feedback Square Enix wants.

Final Fantasy XI Piyo Piyo Hina Chocobo, available from NCSX for $20.90. I’ve never been accused of paying too much attention to Final Fantasy XI, but if I knew it had this much potential for adorability, I might have.

I totally held one of these little guys at TGS, so I can attest to the heart-melting cuteness of this chirping toy.

Natura No Story, “work in progress” gameplay clip.

Though programmer Morukutsu hasn’t yet released a playable demo for this homebrew platformer — and I assume the game is still early in development — its art direction is worth posting about! It’s like layers of construction paper.

Two other interesting and recent DS homebrew projects:

Chocobo Joust from DStopian:

“It’s my first PAlib project, so I tried to keep it small and simple. Basically, it’s Joust (the old arcade game with the knights and flying ostriches/vultures) but with a bit of a final fantasy theme.”

Maketens from Bob Fossil:

“Mankind’s oldest enemy, the decimal numbers 1 to 5, have launched another audacious attack, and it’s up to you to stop them.

They have one weakness — they self destruct when they are combined to make the number ten. Select numbers with the stylus and make tens to save the world.”

The latter game looks like a clone of Skip’s Art Style: Decode or Nintendo’s Make 10: A Journey of Numbers, and is from the same developer behind WordWrap.

Communist China! Kweh!

So, Lou Dobbs is a crazy ol’ hater on CNN, and we often watch him here in the house, because his inability to just say China (instead of “Communist China”), or really, anything not-inflammatory brings epic levels of comedy to our early evenings. We’ve often joked, though, that due to the presence of the little pitcher and his big ears, we should probably stop before he starts squeaking about securing our borders.

That’s not how it happened, though. Instead, the child (who heretofore has only said “dada,” “mama,” and “kitty”) has hilariously and randomly named his rubber chocobo Lou Dobbs. I didn’t believe the husband until I saw and heard it for myself. He’s done this three times, now, and everyone knows that means it’s forever.

Someday, I’m going to get this phenomenon on video, and the lulz will be endless.

Lovely Chocobo DS accessories →

For twenty bucks, you get a DS cover, a stylus, and a screen cleaner thing, all in bright yellow and adorned with the sweet face of the most recent Chocobo character design. The pack ships in October.

Something about yellow DSes appeals to me.
