Christmas notes from your Animal Crossing mom

I was reading tweets last night from someone visiting her family for the holidays, suffering that special sort of anguish that only your parents can deliver during these reunions, and trying to escape into the cheerful Christmas community in their Animal Crossing town.

Why can’t more moms and dads be like the ones that send these sweet letters — picking out perfect presents and giving the family hamster the funeral he deserves?

Merry Christmas from Animal Crossing! This card comes straight from the mayor’s assistant Shizue, spreading a message of joy and cheer to all the rhinos, squirrels, and humans of the village. Nintendo also put out a couple of Animal Crossing wallpapers for your phone or PC, but neither are as great as the ones we posted yesterday.
Did Jingle bring you all the Jingle series furniture you wanted? Did you change your clothes and get more furniture from him? We hope you decked out your house in just the theme you wanted, and we hope you have a lovely holiday in the “real world” we hear exists somewhere outside of the internet and video games.

O come ye, o come ye to Mega Man

This is a really cute Mega Man Xmas card put together by Capcom, featuring music from the “Mega Man Christmas Carol 2” fan game! Yes, there are two holiday-themed Mega Man games. If that’s not a Christmas miracle, I don’t know what is.

Oh, well, that, yes.

Scribblenauts Unlimited (PC), more last-minute gifts

If you’re in need of a quick and cheap gaming gift, the PC version of Scribblenauts Unlimited is a ludicrous $7.49 on Amazon. There are also a ton of other crazy discounts for PC games like the Batman Arkham Pack ($9.99), Dead Island ($5.99), L.A. Noire ($4.99), and a number of bundles on Amazon’s Digital Holiday Deals page — I just grabbed Telltale’s The Walking Dead for $12.49 myself.

If you buy Scribblenauts Unlimited for a friend (or for yourself), they can spend the holiday right tomorrow by hanging out with Santa, and swimming around the ocean on a red-nosed reindeer-shark with Cthulhu, just like in these pics from Sandrya and Monotone Metamorphosis.

HOW TO Make your own Pokemon (Creepy) Black cart

Watch a kid get so stoked over his 3DS Christmas present, he starts swimming on the floor and throwing punches. The story at the beginning here is he thought his grandma/parents got him a jigsaw puzzle set.

Real talk, parents need to stop doing prank gifts with their kids. I saw another similar but much more cruel video the other day, in which two adults tricked their poor son with a fake 3DS present — and kept it going until he was bawling, then posted the video on the internet.

If I was the kid, even when they gave me the 3DS later, I’d be like, “Fuck y’all, this is some bullshit. We’re done. Done. I’m never comin’ out of my room — just gonna play Mario Kart 7 and hate you guys forever.”

This fabulous art, by the way, comes from the awesome Ashley Davis — who you might remember teamed up with us to create the Meteor Night cartridge art for this year’s My Famicase exhibition. If you’re not already following her personal or No Marios blog, you should!

“Holiday Bell” and “Jolly St. Nick” Pushmo puzzles, posted on Facebook by Nintendo of America. It’s pretty rad that Pushmo has a level-sharing system that lets people just share stuff via Facebook or other social networks (see also: Daily Pushmo). It’s even more rad that Nintendo is making use of it!

Make “pulling on Santa’s beard to climb on it” your new tradition this year. But only in this game. If you get arrested at the mall, don’t call us to bail you out.

So, what did you get for Christmas? Did your loved ones love you enough to buy you the year’s best DS RPGs? Maybe your relatives decided to make it rain with cash and gift cards? Cat and dog shirts? A copy of Videogames Hardware Handbook Volume 2? A Nene body pillow? Expensive things you don’t really deserve considering your meager contributions to this world? Let us know!

Samples from Famicom Christmas, a royalty-free 8-bit Christmas music collection released last year by Centerline Records. It’s a bit late to figure out how to order this from the Japanese website, so instead just think of this sample video as the world’s shortest chiptune Christmas album.

And if you haven’t already, you need to download (for free!) The Best Christmas, a special holiday album release from chiptune dance party duo George & Jonathan.

Christmas with Nene, Rinko, and Manaka

Since it’s Christmas Eve and we figured you’d have to be in a pretty lonely state to spend your night at our site, we brought in three virtual ladies to keep you company: Nene Anegasaki, Rinko Kobayakawa, and Manaka Takane from Konami’s virtual girlfriend series Love Plus!

As you can see in the above image, Japanese players with a copy of Love Plus+ are treated to some holiday-themed bits right now. Even if you haven’t imported the game, though, you can still enjoy some Christmas Love Plussing with all the photos we’ve collected after the break.
