It’s long overdue, but Square’s beloved SNES RPG Chrono Trigger releases on Virtual Console today, available for the purchase price of just 800 Nintendo Clams.
And hey, if you prefer to have the game in a portable form, there’s a slight sale on Chrono Trigger DS at Amazon, so you can grab that enhanced version for $16.99.
Card Sagas Wars: Castlevania’s Soma vs Crono and the whole Chrono Trigger crew at times — the team attack at the 1:23 mark is pretty wild!
For those of you wondering when Ahruon and Orkimedes will get around to finally releasing a playable version of this fanmade, M.U.G.E.N.-powered PC project, the Spanish developers explain, “We do what we can when we want and without hurry, so we can only advise you to try to enjoy our development a bit more, even it it’s slow.”
So, yeah, you’ll just have to just settle for these clips we post every few months for now. If you want, you can hold a controller while the video runs and pretend you’re playing — you’ll be amazed by all the moves you can pull off!
Kirby O’Brien, Fez-wearing Phanto, Afro Piranha Plant, and Chrono Trigger’s Fiesta Lavos and GentleNu, all sculpted out of polymer clay by Camille Young.
Phanto isn’t so scary with those bug eyes and buck teeth!
While chatting with Square Enix’s merchandise coordinator at the recently wrapped up Toy Fair in New York City, on the subject of Final Fantasy, he all of a sudden asked, “Hey, do you like Chrono Trigger?” And when I responded with yes, I was taken to the display housing the two figures you see above!
My full report also has a somewhat hard-to-make-out pic of Terra (from Final Fantasy 6) in miniature form as well. My camera is not the best, I’m afraid, plus SE’s booth had all this crazy lighting to contend with. The definite highlight would have to be my conversation with DC Direct, which produces figures based upon various Sony properties, and being told why there will NEVER be one for PaRappa The Rapper.
Crono and friends reach Zeal, drawn by Steph Laberis (click for a larger version).
“I had always imagined that when the Chrono Crew first arrived in Zeal that there was a moment of respite and celebration; to have come from the harsh dark ages to a temperate, floating paradise (with some of the BEST MUSIC in the whole game!) was surely worth taking time out to enjoy the scenery!”
Laberis created this as part of a project that she’ll reveal on August 11th. I wonder what that project could be?
Design for Fangamer’s Chrono Trigger tribute “Chronometer” shirt. I missed this when it was originally unveiled, but now Fangamer has restocked it and added a new gray color, and I’m taking the opportunity to post it now.
I really enjoy Fangamer’s stuff. They make nice t-shirts and assorted materials with smart designs that kind of remind me of The King of Games.
Out of the Super Famicom, and into the DS. As Spencer notes, it’s nice to see a Japanese game commercial deviate from “the usual music video-style montages.”
GameStop isn’t discounting the grotesque, Square Enix Tax-afflicted $39.99 price for the DS port of Chrono Trigger, but between now and October 27 the retailer is offering free overnight shipping on preordered copies. Just enter the coupon code CHRONO at checkout.
NCSX hasdropped the price of Kaitou Rousseau(Rousseau the Thief), a Japanese DS game that I remember GAFfers being really excited about back in 2006, to $25.90. The central mechanic involves drawing faces on a mask to disguise yourself.
