Mock-ups of Classic Controllers skinned after classic consoles. That NES concept is a bit rough, but the SNES/SFC designs are aces — I might want one of those over Club Nintendo’s official SFC Classic Controller.

“Designer’s Classic Controller” for Wii (or Wü, as the package claims). This is a pretty unremarkable controller, and it’s no-name Dealextreme stuff so don’t expect quality, but it reminds me of no-name Genesis and Saturn controllers I’ve had.

And that got me thinking — back when controllers were all digital, I used all kinds of crummy third-party controllers with no compunctions. Now, I approach third-party peripherals with extreme skepticism. It has to either be made in a higher quality than the official device (like an arcade stick) or have a special function (like a guitar controller) or be funny.

Monster Hunter G/Classic Controller bundle available for preorder →

Play-Asia is now accepting preorders for the Wii Monster Hunter G Starter Pack, in case you wanted to blow, like, 75 bucks on a Wii version of a game you can already get cheaply on the PSP, and a blue version of a controller you can get anywhere.

I really like the controller — that’s why I’m pointing this ridiculous offer out. There’s probably someone out there who likes blue stuff and Monster Hunter for whom this is a genuinely attractive offer.

Monster Hunter G Classic Controller.

Capcom is looking to release this branded controller — possibly the first officially released colored/branded controller for the Wii? — along with a copy of PSP/PS2 port Monster Hunter G on April 23rd for ¥5220 ($59).

The game will also be available by itself for ¥3990 ($45) and will include a demo for Monster Hunter 3.

It’s a really slick looking controller, even if the big G looks like pieces taken from a tangram puzzle.

“Wii Vintage Mod Concept II” by Joe D

The wood in the top mockup looked tacky, in my opinion, so I darkened the colors to give it a classier appearance. I’d love to see someone make physical prototypes for these, though, as the effect still looks like decals rather than actual carved pieces of wood.
