Rumor: Get Pokemon XY free when you register a 3DS and game with Club Nintendo next month ⊟
No need to murder your parents, kids — despite the promises of the disembodied fish in this comic from Jeremy Kaye (Up and Out / Patreon). It looks like Club Nintendo US has a fun promotion coming up, according to a convincing Toys R Us advertisement posted at Go Nintendo.
The way the purported promotion works, you can get a free digital copy of Pokemon X or Y when you register a 3DS/2DS/XL on Club Nintendo some time in March along with one of six first-party games:
- Animal Crossing: New Leaf
- Yoshi’s New Island
- Lego City: Undercover
- Super Mario 3D Land
- Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
- Mario Kart 7
Yay, so all you moms and dads out there can sleep easy… For now.
Animal Crossing posters at Club Nintendo ⊟
If you aren’t a dummy like me, and therefore didn’t blow all your Club Nintendo (US) coins on another 3DS card case, you can get this set of two Animal Crossing: New Leaf posters now for 500 Coins.
That poster showing all the villagers is pretty amazing. It’s like a yearbook for everyone you’ve tried to give junk furniture to, again and again, in a desperate effort to convince them to get rid of the awesome stuff in their houses and give it to you. For example.
The very popular 3DS Game Card Case is back in stock at Club Nintendo, and it has several new jacket designs, offering separate Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing: New Leaf cover sets! The cases hold up to 18 cartridges, and will set you back 400 Points.
Also on Club Nintendo: new downloadable game prizes! We have Game & Watch: Cement Factory (eShop), Spin Six (DSiWare), F-Zero (Wii U eShop), and 1080° Snowboarding (Wii U eShop).
Put your 3DS in a Luigi hat ⊟
The retailer is taking orders on this Luigi hat 3DS pouch, which is made only for Club Nintendo. Play-Asia expects them to be in stock on Jan. 13, and charges $29.99. I believe it used to be 450 Coins on the US Club Nintendo site back when it was available.
Year of Luigi goods from Club Nintendo Japan ⊟
That 3DS XL case! Sure, it’s a bit late for a Year of Luigi tie-in item, but Luigi is in our hearts forever. It also comes with a puzzle – with a bunch of Luigis against a green background. Good luck with that!
Other new items on Japan’s Club Nintendo include a notebook and pen, and the Dr. Luigi cleaning cloth set. I’m a bit jealous of these, even if we do get that crazy Luigi’s Mansion diorama in the US.

Ahh, I need this. Thank you, Year of Luigi.
Animal Crossing 2014 diary ⊟
It’s not a Hobonichi Techoooooooo, but this lovely planner/”pocket diary” would be a nice way to organize your life in 2014. If, uh, you could get the Japanese Club Nintendo points together to buy it.
Club Nintendo’s A Link Between Worlds poster set ⊟
For 500 coins, you can get the three posters seen here, each 22” by 28”. Unless they’re sold out by the time this post goes up. That happens sometimes. In which case you should, uh, print out the wallpapers? Or just wait for a restock?
Maybe the best Club Nintendo game downloads ever ⊟
I don’t usually advise people to spend their Coins on the monthly Club Nintendo game deals – use them to buy something you can’t get with regular money! But this month’s offerings are so, so good, that I thought I should point them out just in case you had more Coins than, um, coins.
Through Dec. 8, Metroid and Dillon’s Rolling Western are available for 3DS, and Zelda: A Link to the Past and Cubello are available for Wii.
If you never played Cubello, especially, get on that. That might be one of my favorite games of this generation. I developed a real problem with both that and Rotohex.
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin weirdness ⊟
One of this year’s Platinum prizes for Club Nintendo members in Japan is a downloadable version of 2008’s Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. This isn’t a “Confirmed: Nintendo officially confirms DS games for eShop (confirmation)” announcement, but it’s an interesting move for a few reasons:
- Days of Ruin was translated for Japan but never released there
- A cancelled first-party DS game originally intended for retail release was turned into a downloadable title
- Nintendo did something with the Advance Wars franchise (it’s remained dormant for the last five year)
So, who knows what will come with this. Anticipate the worst, hope for the best.
Platinum members can choose to grab this or a 2014 calendar for their prize — the Days of Ruin download will also become available as a standard prize that people can purchase with 800 coins starting next May.
Colorful 3DS XL cradles coming to Club Nintendo ⊟
These cool 3DS XL cradles, originally a Japanese Club Nintendo exclusive, will be available through US Club Nintendo on Halloween. They’re 500 coins, and supplies are limited. And they look really nice.
I don’t even have an XL and I’m thinking about getting one of these just in case.

Attention: Year of Luigi commemorative coins ⊟
Centuries from now, when we’ve fallen back into the dark ages, our empires collapsed and all but forgotten, the preferred form of currency will be Year of Luigi coins, traded in faded green velvet pouches.
Unfortunately, these are a Europe-only Club Nintendo prize for now, so your descendants might be screwed if they don’t find a way to get a hold of a Luigi coin stash.
