Cooking Mama 4: Kitchen Magic trailer. This video seems like a good time to step back and take stock of how weird shit is. “Mama” cooks stuff, and is interviewed by reporters because of it. I guess that’s not weird if you think of the game as like a cooking show.
That game is about cooking food, as have the previous three Cooking Mama games. Now we’re getting a little stranger. That’s the kind of activity you’d play a game instead of doing. This one adds new bonus features in which you… clean your kitchen and put stuff away. And yet it’s probably going to be fun.
And at the end, when a reporter asks Mama what’s next, she simply says “time’s up!” and winks. Keep in mind that what is next is probably some banal household task. “Surprise! I’m going to wash the car!”
I love that our world has room for Cooking Mama games. So weird.

Cooking Mama plush doll, free with pre-order of Cooking Mama 4 at GameStop. Something looks slightly off about the face on this doll, but it’s still pretty dang cute! If you can identify what it is that’s bothering me, though please do — because I can’t.
I’ve only seen this available at GameStop, so if you want a little plush companion to watch you break eggs, you’ll have to pre-order the 3DS game from there.

Cooking Mama 4: Kitchen Magic oven mitt. Majesco was handing these out to press in its E3 meeting room. Some lucky (and likely nonplussed) Joystiq reader walked away with one of these from the swag table at our reader meetup.
If you want one of your own, there are a couple on eBay right now!

tags / cooking mama / cooking mama 4 / gaming / jc / nintendo 3ds / oven mittI don’t know how you guys feel about Cooking Mama games, but I think they’re interesting as one of the DS’s biggest (and weirdest) original franchises, even if I don’t end up playing them all. Dengeki posted some screens and info about the new one, Camping Mama, including some stuff that I think is pretty noteworthy, especially for a series that doesn’t change all that much.

Cooking Mama’s Mii, made by Majesco. Perfect for any time you want to take 3D pictures of food! Too bad Mii Pics doesn’t include a “flaming eyes” expression. You’ll just have to imagine that level of disapproval.

tags / cooking mama / nintendo 3ds / gaming / jc / miiFor the nerdiest holiday season ever — for when just sending an e-card isn’t nerdy enough — Majesco has posted a site allowing you to send free Cooking Mama-themed e-cards.
I guess if you wanted to go all Crafting Mama, you could print out the image and make a card with it. But I’m sticking with Too Busy Actually Playing Cooking Mama Mama, or simply Lazy-Ass Mama. E-cards for all (I remember to send e-cards to)!

The runner-up in number of votes went to the “Mama will fix it” bag, with this button-mosaic apron receiving the most votes after that. My favorite of the (non-winning) however, is this amazingly creepy Cooking Mama costume. HER FACE IS SEQUINS.

Crafting Mama DS stylus, a preorder bonus for the upcoming DS game from GameStop. I was going to post this with the joke “if they were really serious about crafting, they’d just pack an instruction sheet and you could make it your damn self,” and I was proud of that. Then I showed this to Eric and he noted that you would “need to buy two copies to actually knit with it.” Which is clearly so much better!
Anyway, I really want one of these. I totally find the character endearing. She helps you cook food and stuff, and sometimes her eyes are on fire, and her English is not perfect.

Cooking Mama: Cook Off DS Lite replacement shell, for huge fans of… the first Cooking Mama Wii game. DealExtreme has expanded its selection of DS shells since I last looked, now encompassing not only knockoffs of limited editions, but also stuff like this that is “original” — relatively speaking.
Of course, they’re still doing the knockoffs.

What kind of deranged experiments is Science Papa conducting in his lab? In that mess of objects flying across the screen, I spot a triceratops, pink crystals, a green alien/lizard popping out of a shell (or is that a green diaper?), a clump of brown stuff, and a Habanero pepper.
Now I understand why Mama ditched the scientist and hooked up with her current beau instead.
You know, the game would be so much more interesting if it was about Science Papa trying to prove his genius to a skeptical science community, just so he could win back the attention and affection of Mama, stealing her away. More developers should hire me to write wacky game stories.

tags / cooking mama / science papa / activision / loading screen / weird science / ecIn a statement responding to Activision’s announcement of Science Papa, fictional character Cooking Mama reminded fans that she is “happily married.”
But who is Mama married to?
It’s this guy. Back in 2007, I did a post on DS Fanboy about the character and a release of some other Cooking Mama 2 art (from Dengeki, obviously). As I was working on the post, the character art for Papa changed from the piece on the left to the piece on the right. Maybe in the intervening period, Papa lost his job, thus obviating the need for the suit. It would also explain why the pair eats all their meals at home.
Science Papa had better know how lucky he is to have a job in academia.
