Cosmic Gate special stages EE through 00. I never messed around with this fixed shooter too much, as I was rushing to get to the rest of Retro Game Challenge and I completely forgot about this simple title after unlocking Star Prince.

To access these special stages, input the “Hard Mode” code (down, down, B, B, A, Start at the title screen), activate the warp gate in Level 64, then shoot the portal.

You can actually play Cosmic Gate in the first GCCX, coming stateside on February 10th as Retro Game Challenge, but this version is a port that was released for the MASA-X (likely a play on the MSX computers that were popular in Japan, but not so much in the U.S.).

Additionally, GCCX 2 will feature Karakuri Ninja Haguruman Koume Version, a special edition release of the Haguruman title also seen in the original game:

This release swaps Hagaruman with a (fake) anime character, and was only distributed to her fan club. The concept is similar to several real-life games that were converted to feature different brands or licenses, like All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros., Gradius: ArchiMENdes Edition, or Pepsi Invaders.

Of course, it would be difficult (and expensive!) for a kid to obtain a MASA-X system or this rare copy of Hagaruman, so players will need to leave the comfort of their virtual living room and head to the local “Game Shop Waku Waku Boy” to play these exotic releases!
