DSiWare news out the god damn yin-yang

I loathe putting together these round-up posts because they require so much effort and no one bothers to read through them, but someone has to cover these DSiWare items, right? Sure, Nintendo Life and Go Nintendo mention this junk from time to time, but I’m kind of focused on building the audience for this site. Anyway…

This trailer for Burning Puzzle Flame Tail presents a curious concept: the game scrolls like a vertical shoot’em-up with the DSi turned on its side but has the mechanics of a puzzler. You ignite block groups by touching them with your snake-like form, and collect letters spelling out power-ups. It’s the latest from Mindware, the little known studio that produced surprise gem Maboshi’s Arcade.

G.G Series Black X Block, one of two Japanese DSiWare releases from Genterprise’s budget G.G. brand last month. The other 200 Point game, also developed by Umihara Kawase DS studio Suzak, was a puzzler called Vertex, which you can see screenshots for here. Genterprise and Suzak have at least two more cheap titles planned for January, shoot’em up Dark Spirits and top-down action game D-Tank, both of which look not terrible, especially considering their price.

You can always count on NintenDaan to upload Nintendo’s video summary of DSiWare releases from the past month — here’s December 2009’s clip. There are a few interesting games in there that you might want to see, like Fight With Photos: Photo Fighter X and Kappa Road.

Out of all the games, G.G Series Black X Block seems the most fascinating, even with its simple stick-man graphics, graph paper background, and block platforms.

Import: Japanese Nintendo DSi XL/LL (Natural White, Dark Brown, Wine Red) & Standard DSi (White, Black, Pink, Red, Lime Green, Metallic Blue)

Buy: U.S. Nintendo DSi (White, Pink, Black and Blue)
