Devil Survivor Overclocked and Devil Survivor 2 coming to Europe»

Ghostlight is bringing you demons. The European publisher announced a deal with Atlus to release both Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked for 3DS and Devil Survivor 2 for DS in Europe.

There are no release dates yet, but at least we now know the dates aren’t “never.”

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2’s new English trailer — “7 invaders… 7 days… Survive or die.” I’m not sure who’s going to pick “die” out of those two options, but it’s nice to know Atlus is giving players options for how they want to proceed in this SRPG.

New English trailer for Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2. Atlus sums up the plot of this DS SRPG:

“When a website that shows its guests others’ deaths before they come to pass becomes all the rage, a group of curious teens is forced to ask each other: How will you die?”

I don’t think I can imagine a site like that becoming “all the rage”, like the next Twitter or Silly Bandz or what have you — not because of how morbid or frightening the idea is; mostly because people hate reading spoilers.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 boxart and English screenshots. These are the first official English screens — and just in time, as the game is set for “early 2012.”

If you’re interested in checking out this Nintendo DS sequel, it’s probably a good idea to pre-order it or get it right away. Devil Survivor Overclocked appears to be in short supply, like Atlus games of old. Remember not being able to buy Trauma Center? Fun… times…

“Let’s Survive” by Dust Cloud, dope fanart of SMT: Devil Survivor 2’s protagonist (click for a larger version).

Though Devil Survivor 2 doesn’t come out in the U.S. until next year (it released in Japan last month), its revamped predecessor, Devil Survivor Overclocked, hits stores this week — it’s the 3DS’s first JRPG in the States!

In the NeoGAF thread for the game, Atlus’ Nich Maragos hints that Devil Survivor: The OC is receiving a limited print run (not surprising, considering the minimal promotions for the game), so this might not be the kind of game you put off buying for a few months. Then again, it’s not like there’s much else to play on your 3DS…

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 gameplay trailer show off combat, the new Enishi System, Devil Auctions, and other elements that will be included in the DS sequel.

Atlus also put out a story video for Devil Survivor 2, and a character trailer for another one of its upcoming DS titles, Noora and the Time Studio, but these Japanese clips with little gameplay tend to bore me, so I’m just linking instead of embedding them here.

First Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 trailer. Since you likely can’t understand most of the text and unexciting conversation clips in this Japanese video, here’s some info on the sequel pulled from the Megami Tensei Wiki:

“Suddenly, mysterious invaders called the Septentrion arrive in Japan and begin attacking the country on a Sunday. To fight back, the heroes in Devil Survivor 2 signed a pact with the devil to become the Thirteen Devil Messengers. The Septentrion show up at least once a day and you have a time limit of seven days to defeat them.

He protagonist is a third year high school student from a metropolitan area. He got involved with the Devil Messenger group by accident while returning from a mock exam session. When he awoke he became one of the Devil Messengers together with Io, a classmate at the protagonist’s school. As an honors student, Io has brains and beauty. She’s said to be the dream girl for many young men.

Daichi is also from the protagonist’s school and he’s a childhood friend. He’s a deep thinker even though he has a habit of making light of the harsh situation.”

Remember, Devil Survivor 2 is shipping in Japan for DS, while an enhancement of the original game, Devil Survivor Overclocked, will release in North America and Japan for the Nintendo 3DS some time later this year.
