Dragon’s Crown for $20 ⊟
The Vita version of Dragon’s Crown is on sale at Amazon for $19.99. I loved Dragon’s Crown when it came out, and frequent tweaks, patches and updates have only made it better since then! There’s an endless tower thing now! Via @wario64.

Dragon’s Crown Amazon figurine ⊟

Dragon’s Crown’s powerful, dangerously underdressed Amazon (my character of choice!) is being made into a figure by Megahouse. It ships from J-List in July for $130. The images may be NSFW, but the figurine is definitely NSFW.

Other “Excellent Model Figures” in the series include Elf and Sorceress. And now, just like every time I talk about Dragon’s Crown, I want to go play Dragon’s Crown.

Dragon’s Crown patch adds random dungeon ⊟
Wow, Vanillaware keeps tinkering with Dragon’s Crown! A new patch adds a randomly generated dungeon, the Tower of Mirages, with “tens of thousands” of floors. And to keep you interested in tackling those floors, your level cap is bumped from 99 to 255!
Here’s the list of changes, with big stuff bolded:
[Bug Fixes]
Gameplay stability is improved.
 [New Features]
Clearing the ninth layer in the Labyrinth of Chaos unlocks a new “Ultimate” difficulty level. This difficulty can be selected at the Temple.
When in Ultimate difficulty, a new randomly generated dungeon named the “Tower of Mirages” is added.
Ultimate difficulty raises the level cap from LV 99 to LV 255.
Item shortcuts can now be assigned and used separately by holding L1 and the Up directional button.
Damage values can now be displayed as a running total instead of per-hit.
To help increase player character visibility, characters can be shown with transparencies when they are on top of one another. This feature is available in the Options menu and can be toggled on or off.
Save files that have cleared Story mode can skip the first quests leading to the Talisman collection when creating a new character.
Guild Quests that have already been cleared may now be skipped in subsequent playthroughs.
[Feature Modifications]
Character class skills have received a number of adjustments.
NPC behavior has been adjusted.
Rules and effects regarding equipment, items, and skills in the Colosseum have been adjusted.
Other tuning and minor improvements to various gameplay elements have been made.
Atlus says this is the final planned update, but, like, what if George Kamitani randomly decides to work more on this game. Dude’s been thinking about Dragon’s Crown for a long time. Image by Miso.

Great updates in the new Dragon’s Crown patch ⊟
A new patch has gone out for both PS3 and Vita versions of Dragon’s Crown, adding some nice fixes and minor tweaks, most importantly improved stability for online games. I think I got dropped in every online game to date…
Full patch notes are after the break, but a few other fixes worth noting include the ability to find hidden items just by tracing the finger icon over them, an option to fix all items in your bag at once, region specification for online play, and diagonal throws for daggers and bombs. Neat!

Perfect-Dodge Peasant Lady from Dragon’s Crown
She’s probably the biggest badass in the game — the kid walking around with the bottle doesn’t take any hits either, but he doesn’t have a pot on his head. Meanwhile, the dude with the apples is quick to snitch to 5-0 if you bump him. Imma catch up to him later.
The artist behind this, DashXero, has more Dragon’s Crown art you can check out on his Tumblr.

Can’t help myself / More Dragon’s Crown poking
If you watched that video of lecherous Dragon’s Crown players tapping inappropriate parts on NPCs, then you likely saw the segment with the Bound Spirit wearing a ridiculous and completely transparent outfit. Psoodoo’s parody GIF demonstrates just how ridiculous that pose and the entire scene is. If you look closely, you can see his toes curl with each poke.
We recorded a Dragon’s Crown podcast, by the way. Give it a listen.

TinyCast 004 - Mermaid's Buttocks - Tiny Cartridge

TinyCast 004 - Mermaid's Buttocks

Tiny Cartridge • TinyCast

Dragon’s Crown is out today, and so is our latest podcast episode about the PS Vita/PS3 game! This latest TinyCast goes over the beat’em up’s divisive art and odd design decisions, but it’s a game that we’ve really enjoyed and can’t wait to play online more. We also discuss recent news about 3DS games like Rodea the Sky Soldier, Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies, and Gaist Crusher. There might be a free code in there for a PlayStation 3 game, too. You can stream the show with our flash player or grab the MP3 from SoundCloud.

Quick apologies for my crappy audio (everyone else sounded great) and the fact that this podcast is still hosted on SoundCloud. We’re working to improve the recording setup and should have our hosting/iTunes/RSS sitch locked down by the next episode. In the meantime, we should have our older episodes available again soon. Please understand.

Dragon’s Crown stickers!

And you could actually slap these onto your stuff without feeling embarrassed! Illustrator Stacy Lichnock made these and doesn’t appear have them up for sale at the moment, but maybe you could prod into selling them or creating more designs for the other characters.

Atlus is releasing this to PS Vita and PlayStation 3 today! While Tiny Cartridge is a 3DS-focused blog (well, handheld-focused really), JC and I have played Dragon’s Crown a lot lately, so I hope you don’t mind if we spend the day posting a bunch of stuff from the game.

The mouth-watering cooking minigame in Dragon’s Crown

Maybe it’s because I’m super hungry right now, but I can’t stop thinking about the cooking minigame that pops up every now and then in Dragon’s Crown when you run through multiple dungeons. The way it works, a mess of food pops up, then you and all the other players rush to throw them into pots, stir the recipe, drop it on your dish, and scarf them down for bonuses before a timer runs out.

And god, the things you can make look so tasty. I remember that Vanillaware took plenty of care to make Muramasa's food appear delectable, and the same is true for Dragon’s Crown. Josef took photos of the art book’s pages showing the different meals you can prepare in Dragon’s Crown, and I’ve just been staring at them, wishing there was a restaurant nearby that served some of these recipes.

Poke pale maidens, brawny men, and goblin cooks in Dragon’s Crown

I don’t know why I’m surprised, given the character designs I’ve seen in this game, but there’s a bit of Love Plus/Doki Doki Majo Shinpan in Dragon’s Crown, in that you can use the touchscreen (or control stick if you’re slumming it on a PlayStation 3) to bother people for a reaction.

It looks like you get the same reaction no matter what area you aim for, so if you’re a total perv about it, that’s mostly on you.

New Dragon’s Crown trailer prepares you for next week

This is the game that finally managed to pull JC and I away from Animal Crossing: New Leaf a bit (Attack of the Friday Monsters doesn’t count — that was only 2-3 hours long). Expect a lot more discussion from us on this one, leading up to its release in a week.

If you have a choice, I recommend getting this on PS Vita. Yay, portability/playing things in bed.

Dragon’s Crown was much less busty in 1998
Wow, concept art from when the brawler was supposed to release for the Dreamcast! It’s a far cry from George Kamitani’s exaggerated character designs that will appear in the game shipping for PS Vita and PlayStation 3 in two weeks.
