This is a smartphone AC adapter shaped like a Slime ⊟
Sure, you may already have the Slime battery charger for some emergency power (I do!), but do you have a wall charger shaped like a Slime? Because that exists now.
Beautiful Dragon Quest Monsters 2 3DS XL ⊟
I’ll limit my grumbles about the lack of any Dragon Quest games releasing in the West to just this sentence here. This is a really nice limited edition system, almost as pretty as the last Dragon Quest Monsters 3DS.
Make monsters in Dragon Quest Monsters 2 ⊟
Neat; there’s a monster editor in this 3DS remake for the 2001 GBC RPG. There’s a slime witch. That’s cool. These screens are cool (via 4gamer).
Also cool: if you look closely at the second screenshot in the third row, you can see a hint from Square Enix about when the publisher will start releasing its Dragon Quest 3DS games in the West. Here, I’ve blown up the pic for you.
Dragon Quest: The Phone ⊟
Not only is Square Enix porting Dragon Quest I-VIII to smartphones, it is releasing a Dragon Quest smartphone. I don’t know the specs of the “Metal Slime” colored phone DoCoMo and Square Enix will release, but it doesn’t really matter because you shouldn’t buy a Dragon Quest phone. Like, that is a bad reason to buy a phone.
Looks super cool though. Unlike Dragon Quest VIII on mobile.
Dragon Quest Monster Parade trailer is the best ⊟
I’m not about to suggest we pay attention to a F2P Dragon Quest browser game, but I do suggest you watch this trailer for it. I mean, unless you don’t want to see a Slime high-five a Dracky.
I’ve mentioned on here and on Twitter how sad it is that Square Enix hasn’t talked about bringing any of its Dragon Quest 3DS/Wii U games to the West, but Jeremy Parish put together a great piece on the state of the series, and how the publisher “seem to have given up on making it a viable export.”
"Honestly, it’s difficult to imagine a positive outcome to the situation. As the games industry continues to lock itself further into the AAA rut, publishers continue to polarize game releases into big-budget affairs or indie titles. For a handful of classic Japanese brands like Dragon Quest, there’s just no place in the West; they’re too big to be indie, but too niche to match the success of the big names.”
Credit to JessicaAlbert13 for the shot of the slimes being held hostage (I think from Dragon Warrior: Legend of the Hero Abel?).
Square Enix announced this 3DS remake of the 2001 GBC game last month, but here are the first screenshots we’re getting for it. If you haven’t been counting, this is the fourth Dragon Quest game on the 3DS with no announced plans for a Western release.
Slime hourglass! and more
This is not a drill, people. This is real. There is a Slime hourglass, and it comes with blue or Metal colored sand. There’s also a Slime memo pad (in several colors!), spoon, fork, and salt and pepper shaker set.
Aaaaand Amiami has all this stuff. I KNOW.
Dragon Quest X's PC benchmark scene
This sequence is used to test your PC’s ability to run the newest version of the Japan-only MMO (oh yeah, it’s coming to PC by the way), as well as your ability to tolerate fucking adorable imagery. I’m not about that MMO life, but I am totally all about this little girl and her accidental mass summoning.
If this YouTube capture isn’t enough for you (and you want to see if you can run the game) you can pick up the benchmark program here.
This will be featured at iam8bit’s gallery show opening tomorrow in Los Angeles! More than 80 artists have provided pieces for the exhibit, which is nuts.
Square Enix has put out a list detailing a portion of the games it will show at E3 next week, but the tally doesn’t include any of Wii U or 3DS’s Dragon Quest games — there’s not even a mention of Bravely Default, though that may be because Nintendo is publishing it in the U.S. I’ll be very disappointed if we don’t hear anything about Dragon Quest X, Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D, Slime MoriMori Dragon Quest 3, or Dragon Quest VII.
Metal Slime Keyboard!
Today has turned into an unintentional theme day on Tiny Cartridge, with the discovery of Hori’s Metal Slime version of its excellent Slime keyboard, complete with removable Slime figures on the buttons, and even a Liquid Metal Slime on the escape button … naturally.
Ostensibly, it’s for use with Dragon Quest X, and includes some in-game Metal Slime stuff, but who cares. It’s USB, it’ll work with things.
This is going to be released sometime in the spring for ¥4980 ($53), and judging by how quickly the last one sold out, I don’t have much time to think about it if I want to buy one of these. Is a novelty keyboard something I need at this point in my life…
The best Slimes of all — maybe even the best enemy you can come across in any video game.
