Boxlife Cribs: It’s like the Neverland Ranch up in this bitch.

As you can tell by the mansion, the pristine golf course, and the imported Javan tiger (thought to be extinct, but evidently not so), the box folding life has been kind to me.

Mock the minivan if you want, but don’t get angry with me when your girl’s jaw drops as I cruise by on 28-inch rims. Don’t complain to me when you can’t figure out how to describe your rage in 140 characters after seeing your soulmate and I share a bottle of Le Montrachet ‘78, right next to the very vehicle you’d teased earlier.

I’m just sayin’.

I know what you’re asking yourself — “What sort of job do I need to get an estate like that? Where did he find this car dealership that apparently sells droptop minivans? How can I be more like Eric and live my life like it’s golden?”

Well, if you picked up Art Style: Boxlife for DSiWare, you’d have the answer to all those questions.

Gyakuten Kenji Premium Edition DSi.

This is easily the most attractive branded DSi yet — if only it didn’t cost $299 to import, I’m sure you would be all over this. The cheaper but still crazy expensive Gyakuten Kenji e-Capcom Limited Edition bundle is also impressive:

Nyko Zoom Case for DSi.

Yeah, this is really happening, and it’s somehow more ridiculous than DreamGear’s 3-in-1 Flash Cover. This huge attachment gives the DS’s camera 8x zoom, enabling you to give people cat ears and Mario mustaches from a distance!

DSi, DSiWare buttload

Developers have announced a buttload of DSi games this past week, some of which unfortunately appear to have actually arrived via someone’s butt. It’s a disgusting thought, I know, but seriously — Ball Fighter and Robot Rescue for DSiWare? More like Butt Fighter and RoButt Rescue for DSbWare (the b is for butt).

Enigma Software, though a studio I’ve never heard of, has a decent DSi-enhanced retail game planned, even if its silhouette foreground art style seems ripped from Patapon or Night Game. The game features stylus-based controls, co-op and versus multiplayer for four players, and maps that you can create with drawings or photos.

Enigma is also working on Music School, a less interesting music education title that uses unspecified DSi features.

Back to DSiWare, Creat Studios just announced Alien Havoc, in which you control an alien and herd cows into your spaceship, fighting farmers along the way. Sounds like Flock, but with 2D graphics that would look at home on a mobile game, and without a cameo from Blanka.

Idolm@ster DS to use DSi camera

You may have heard that Namco Bandai is bringing its Idolm@ster pop idol sim to DS in Japan, but there are two details most outlets seem to have missed:

  1. Idolm@ster: Dearly Stars will use the DSi’s camera to scan QR codes that will unlock in-game items (a DSi camera feature I predicted!).
  2. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this could be the first Eastern-developed retail DS title announced with DSi-specific features (the first revealed DSi-targeted title is Ubisoft’s depressing My Cooking Coach, which takes player photos for chef profiles).

Considering the widely held belief that DSi-enhanced carts will be region-locked, I wonder if importers will have trouble playing this game on their U.S. DSis or DSes.

Capdase's Nintendo DSi Lifestyle Case →

In addition to its two cart slots, Capdase’s Lifestyle Case for the DSi features a velcro strap with a ring on the back for attaching the pouch to bags, belts, or what have you. It’s available through select Japanese retailers for around ¥1,800 ($19) in Black, Khaki, Red, and Gold (the last of which looks more like a light brown):

Notice that the holes on the side leave room for you to plug in a pair of headphones, so you can listen to PiCTOBiTS tunes while walking around. The case also comes with a matching color/material wrist strap that you can hook into your system.

New flashcart seeks to circumvent future lockouts from DSi firmware updates →

Nintendo didn’t just render old flashcarts unusable with its latest DS model, the company left itself the option of adding more advanced anti-piracy measures in the future with downloadable firmware updates. Several companies like Acekard and M3 have released new carts that circumvent the DSi’s protections, but Nintendo could make those products obsolete by forcing upgrades that patch up whatever holes the carts are exploiting.

To combat that, SuperCard is releasing its DSONEi with a “USB-based firmware updater”, which will allow owners to flash their cart with a workaround (provided that hackers find one) should Nintendo introduce a firmware update locking out current carts. Pretty neat! It’s just unfortunate that kids will mostly use the DSONEi to play pirated games and not homebrew releases.

Upcoming Gachapin and Mukku DSi “semi-hard cases” from Cyber Gadget. Like the last Gachapin cases we featured, these will be released in Japan this June. Also on the way: new styli!

If I ever make it to Japan, I’ll probably come back laden with ridiculous Gachapin DS accessories.

The Sanrio Little Twin Stars Jewelry Stickers for DSi. This is the “Heartful Kiki and Lala” version, but it also comes in a few other Little Twin Stars and Hello Kitty varieties.

“Make your Nintendo DSi super kawaii with Twin Little Stars Jewel Sticker,” Strapya’s product page says. “No one has such a cute DSi. You’ll be asked where you got the DSi.” It’s hard to tell which is cuter, these stickers or Strapya’s text.

The DSi Hard Case Clear by AClass. This 1180-yen ($12) case adds storage to the DSi for three games and two SD cards. It doesn’t seem to fatten the system too much, either.

No idea at the moment how to get your hands on one of these, unless you can figure out Amazon Japan.

DSi’s graffiti/music feature explained. If text is too much for you, MNC Dover has created a video showing you how to play music with the system’s photo editing tools.

He also demonstrates what The Legend of Zelda’s overworld theme is supposed to sound like when someone musically competent plays it. It’s astounding how awful and inaccurate my version sounds in comparison.

How to play music with the DSi Camera's graffiti mode →

MNC Dover figured out something neat about the music notes you can draw onto pictures in the DSi Camera’s graffiti mode — the notes they play are ordered in “a sequence that mirrors a piano’s layout,” and can even be played with flats and sharps.

Which is how I played this awful mangling of The Legend of Zelda’s overworld theme (only the first few notes):

Hit the above link for more info on this cool detail, as well as instructions on how to play another song (which I hope won’t sound as awful for you as my recorded attempt).
