White and Pink 3DS bundles for Europe, Rose and Blue DSi XL bundles for U.S.

The Ice White and Misty Pink 3DS models announced for Japan are headed to the West soon, too — but as far as we know, they’re coming to Europe, not North America.

They will release as bundles for Super Mario 3D Land (Ice White; wouldn’t Flame Red be more appropriate?) and Nintendogs + Cats (Coral Pink) on November 18. Nintendo will sell them as standalone systems in December, too.

DSi LL + TV tuner package, given to earthquake victims in Japan. Nintendo sent out products to people living in the evacuation centers, but didn’t make any efforts to publicize these charitable gestures, as detailed in a statement given by CEO Satoru Iwata at the last shareholders meeting (and then not printed in the transcript!). Were it not for one of the recipients posting these images at Hachimaki, we’d never know what Nintendo’s donated systems comprised, or even what they looked like!

In addition to entertainment, these sets allow families to receive over-the-air TV broadcasts, and therefore keep up with news. Eric pointed out one other potential benefit — being, essentially, extremely limited-edition bundles with exclusive packaging, these sets are inevitably going to make some people a lot of money on online auctions.

DSi XL demo video cartridge. A cartridge containing nothing but auto-playing videos of games like New Super Mario Bros., Flipnote Studio, Scribblenauts, and other high-profile DS releases sounds pretty boring, but it’s got that rarity factor that makes it so desirable!

Also rare: it’s a DSi-only cartridge. Remember how we all thought that would be a thing that happened more than a few times?

eBay seller qualitydisc believes it’s rare and desirable enough, certainly: the auction starts at $399.95.

New DSi and DSi XL covers from Gametech’s WaSaBi line. These are all polycarbonate covers overlaid with Japanese-style fabric, and all cost between ¥3,150 ($39) and ¥3,570  ($44). Which is, yes, really expensive for a case for now-outdated hardware.

Gametech also announced new cases featuring the same fabrics for iPhone 4 and iPad.

Pokemon World Championship 2010 Special Edition DSi XL, given to competitors in both the game and card competitions this year in Hawaii. It’s nowhere near as colorful as the DSi handed out in 2009, but it’s pretty cool! (It’s also nowhere near as clearly photographed. There’s another suboptimal picture in this auction, if that helps.)

It’s currently selling on eBay for $480. Maybe you can ask for a better picture if you seriously want to bid on it…

Nintendo DSi XL holiday commercial. This adorable ad uses the Super Mario Bros. theme to sell the Red DSi XL bundle. The only problem is… you can’t play Super Mario Bros. on a DSi XL. Now that I think about it, that’s really sad. It’s a Super Mario Bros. commemorative system and everything. This vague feeling of disappointment is how I’ll convince myself I don’t want the red DSi XL bundle.

If you’re searching for gaming goods to blow money on, look to Amazon, where you’ll find Dragon Quest IX for $17, Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light for $16, Super Scribblenauts for $20, Chrono Trigger for $15, Demon’s Souls for $20, and PSPgo bundles for $150.

Close-up of the Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary DSi XL (click for a larger image). It comes out in Europe tomorrow, but you’ll have to wait until November 7th to get this special edition system bundle in the States.

I need to stop looking at/posting about this junk — I still have to save up for a Nintendo 3DS!

Preorder Special Edition DSi XL Red →

Again, this Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary special edition bundle comes with a red Nintendo DSi XL, Mario Kart DS, and preinstalled software (Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters, Brain Age Express: Math, and Photo Clock). Amazon is selling all that for $179, just $10 more than a DSi XL by itself (free shipping).

And for $20 more, you can preorder the limited edition Wii Hardware bundle, which includes a red console, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Wii Sports, a red Wii Remote Plus controller (MotionPlus built-in), and a red Nunchuk.

Both come out in North American on November 7th!

U.S.-bound: Mario Red DSi XL bundle →

What with it being the NES’s 25th birthday today, I expect a formal announcement for this some time soon, but Walmart revealed that the Special Edition Super Mario Bros. Red DSi XL is coming to North America!

Unlike the European and Japanese bundles, Walmart’s $199 package includes Mario Kart DS and two “value games” — though most of the value game selection is junk, it includes Puzzle Quest Galatrix and Lock’s Quest.

There’s no word yet on whether the Super Mario Bros. 25th anniversary Wiis or non-XL DSis are coming here, nor is there any news about other retailers carrying the DSi XL bundle with other game options. Of course, we’ll get that shiz on here post haste if we hear anything about it.

Nintendo Cuts DSi/XL prices to $150/$170

Months after discounting the systems in the UK and Japan, Nintendo has finally cut its prices for the DSi (now $149.9) and DSi XL (now $169.99) in North America. Huzzah!

Those DSi XLs still seem really expensive, but those screens are huge, and the oversized portables come preloaded with Brain Age Express: Math, Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters, Photo Clock, and the usual free software (Flipnote Studio, Nintendo DSi Browser).

These new prices take effect on September 12th — DS Lites will stay priced at $129.99 Also, Nintendo revealed that Golden Sun: Dark Dawn launches on November 29th.

Buy: Nintendo DSi XL (Burgundy, Bronze, & Blue), Standard Nintendo DSi (White, Pink, Black, & Blue)

Midnight Blue DSi XL system (duotone blue and black color scheme) hitting stores in the U.S. on July 11th, timed with the release of Dragon Quest IX in North America!

This $189.99 system — I guess DSi XLs aren’t getting a price cut here like in Japan? — comes pre-loaded with Flipnote Studio, Brain Age Express: Math, Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters, Photo Clock, and the Nintendo DSi Browser.

Finally, a DSi XL color that isn’t for your grandma! Now, if only Nintendo would bring the Yellow and Green models..

Buy: Nintendo DSi XL (Burgundy and Bronze — and soon Midnight Blue!), Standard Nintendo DSi (White, Pink, Black and Blue)

Japanese trailer for new Nintendo DSi XL/LL colors: Blue, Green, and Yellow. What a fun video!

Nintendo revealed these new system colors for Japan, hitting stores there on June 19th — perhaps the company will release them here to more than double our paltry selection of either Bronze or Burgundy DSi XLs.

Japan will also receive a rare price cut for both DSi XL models (from ¥20,000/$217 to  ¥18,000/$196) and standard DSi consoles (from ¥18,900/$205 to ¥15,000/$163), and retailers can now decide an “open price” for the DS Lite.

Nintendo of Europe expects to drop its prices for DSi and DS Lite systems starting June 18th, too, though it didn’t specify how much it will cost. I expect we’ll see some new hardware prices in North America, too! I guess we have the upcoming 3DS to thank for these cheaper DSi/DSes!
