Etrian Odyssey-style Persona Q comes to 3DS ⊟
Amongst a slew of Persona announcements coming out of Japan this morning, Atlus revealed it’s finally bringing the cult RPG series to 3DS (remember that E3 2010 tease?), but no in a way anyone expected.
Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, will be an Etrian Odyssey-style dungeon crawler starring characters from the series’ third and fourth game. Those characters will be presented in chibi form, which I’m alright with. It’s cute stuff.
This spin-off releases in Japan next June — watch a trailer for it here. Don’t worry, Atlus revealed Persona 5 for PlayStation 3, too (winter 2014 in Japan).

What’s in the Etrian Odyssey Untold box ⊟
Man, Atlus knows how to put together a game package. And a video about that game package. Whether you’re buying on the eShop or in this box, it comes out October 1.
Etrian Odyssey IV for $20, Soul Hackers for $25 ⊟
I know Etrian Odyssey Untold comes out in just a few days, but that doesn’t mean you should pass on an opportunity to fill your 3DS library with more Atlus RPGs. Besides, who knows when we’ll get more from the company…
[Update: EOIV is on backorder, but you can still get it for $20 under alternate sellers.]
Introducing Etrian Odyssey Untold's Raquna and Arthur ⊟
These two trailers show off two of Etrian Odyssey Untold's characters, because it has characters now! These two videos aren't all the media Atlus dropped: there's also a soundtrack preview.
Exploring Etrian Odyssey Untold's Classic Mode ⊟
I expect the new Story Mode in Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl will make this remake a lot more approachable to people who’ve avoided the series up to this point, but if you prefer to roll without, um, pre-rolled characters (like if you want to do all that rolling yourself), you can kick it old school like and old fool who’s so cool.
Of course you’ll be missing out on the game’s shota Arthur Charles, whom Atlus also released a trailer for. Anyway, you’ll be able to try out the game on September 16 when a demo hits the eShop (saves from the demo will transfer to the full game).
Etrian Odyssey Untold story/voice acting trailer ⊟
I was looking at next month’s releases, and September seems weak for retail 3DS games, but as soon as October hits — this goes out on the 1st — shit gets craydiculous, and it will be hard to find the time to play everything. I feel like we had the same problem when Etrian Odyssey IV came out..
Etrian Odyssey IV comes to Europe August 30 ⊟
…with an eShop release a week later. Sure, North America gets Etrian Odyssey Untold just a couple months later, but at least Europe is catching up, sorta! And it’s not like you’re going to finish this one quickly.
A demo is up on the eShop today. It’s up in North America too, if you’re in that region and never got around to checking it out…
Etrian Odyssey Untold's box set
Surprising no one who buys Atlus’s games on the reg, the publisher revealed its first run of Etrian Odyssey: Untold The Millennium Girl copies will include a design book (character art, comics, and notes) and a seven-track music CD featuring arrangements by Yuzo Koshiro. Eases the pain of spending $40 for another Etrian Odyssey game this year.
Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl
A brief break from Nintendo Direct stuff to share this video Atlus USA just posted of Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl's opening. If you've already seen the Japanese version, you probably won't miss anything out if you skip this clip, considering the lack of dialogue. I guess it's a reminder that, hey, there are third-party 3DS games you should be looking forward to this fall, too.
Megwin recreates Etrian Odyssey Untold
The original trailers for Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl were pretty good, but they weren’t Megwin good. Megwin are gods of sweding.
Etrian Odyssey Untold's boxart and release date
Despite reported problems at its parent company, Atlus USA will still release Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl to North America this fall, delivering the 3DS remake for the series’ first game on October 1 for $39.99 — no word yet if there will be any extra thrown in with retail copies.
I tried this out at E3, and it played and looked a lot like Etrian Odyssey IV, updating the original 2007 game with 3D graphics, an orchestrated soundtrack option, animated cutscenes from Madhouse, fresh dungeon layouts, and other new content and conveniences.
There’s also the new Story Mode with pre-made characters, a first for the series. I asked Atlus what was the deal with the game’s story trailer spoiling a late-game twist from the original Etrian Odyssey, and I was told that presumably it’s not seen as a big spoiler in this one, as it looks like that big reveal is sacrificed to introduce key plot points early in the campaign.
Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl coming to North America
Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl (EOU) offers two full length experiences: The expanded story mode takes players on a journey to unravel the mystery of the Yggdrasil Tree’s origins, and the classic mode updates the originalEtrian Odyssey. Both versions feature the same gameplay conveniences, updated 3D graphics, and StreetPass™ abilities as inEtrian Odyssey IV.
