TWEWY follow-up teased, KH 3D trailer

In an interview with Famitsu, Square Enix’s Tetsuya Nomura revealed that the cameo from Neku, star of DS cult hit The World Ends With You, in Kingdom Hearts 3D’s TGS demo could be taken as a hint of future plans.

Though Nomura didn’t state that a sequel or a new game is in development, there’s also talk that TWEWY’s Shiki and other characters may play a part in this project.

Speaking of Kingdom Hearts 3D, here’s a new trailer for the game with Neku (another mirrored video!):

Monster dump of Monster Hunter Tri-G stuff

You know it’s a crazy day of gaming news when the third most exciting story (we’ll have a post later on the second most exciting item) is Capcom releasing the latest edition of its super popular series, Monster Hunter Tri-G, for the 3DS in Japan before the end of the year.

Though Capcom says “there are no plans to bring it to the West for now”, and MH Portable 3rd (PSP/PS3) never released outside of Japan, I hope Nintendo convinces the publisher to bring this MH Tri follow-up to the States.

What we know about MH Tri-G so far, stolen from 1UP and Andriasang’s translations of Famitsu’s feature:

Secret Scoop! The extra 3DS Circle Pad peripheral/cradle revealed (click for a larger image of this larger 3DS). Along with the extra analog input, this adds R1, R2, and L2 buttons. I am predicting that added bulk, particularly in its thickness, serves as a battery pack, too.

Forum threads and blog comments are brimming with questions — and anger — about the device: Is this just for Monster Hunter Tri G, or will plenty of future games require this? Is that rumored hardware revision, which adds the new Circle pad to the base design and thumbs its nose at early adopters, also in the works?

This actually reminds me of the Classic Controller Pro’s release alongside Monster Hunter Tri for Wii, which was designed to provide a better grip, improved analog pad placement, and bigger shoulder butons. I suspect Capcom asked for this peripheral to improve the Monster Hunter experience. We’ll find out soon how much of the 3DS’s future Nintendo is investing in this attachment.

Report: Monster Hunter 3DS coming, extra 3DS slide pad is actually a thing

Several Japanese sites are reporting that the latest issue of Famitsu unveiled a 3DS port for Monster Hunter Tri G (only local multiplayer support discussed so far, unfortunately), which we’ve all expected ever since other rumors like DQX Online and Rhythm Thief came true.

What is a surprise is the buzz we’re hearing about the same issue of Famitsu supposedly validating that ridiculous gossip about Nintendo creating a second analog/slide pad accessory that connects to the right side of the handheld (see mock-up above).

Again, this could all be stuff someone made up, but the talk on the Twitterbutts is that the extra pad clips onto the entire system, and adds an R2 button. That this thing might exist at all is astounding. I’m still unsure if I’m broccoli_dog.jpg over this news or not.

Scans of Shinrei Camera, a new 3DS game co-developed by Tecmo’s Fatal Frame team and Nintendo.

As you can surmise from the title and these shorts, it’s a horor game that takes advantage of the 3DS’s augmented reality capabilities. The game will come with an “AR Notebook” that you can point your camera at in-game to reveal hidden messages, clues, and even demons.

1UP translated Famitsu’s preview of the game, with comments from producer Keisuke Kikuchi:

Shinrei Camera will feature three game modes: a story-driven adventure set in the same world as the rest of the Fatal Frame series; a minigame collection that uses the AR notebook; and a ‘ghost camera’ mode that allows you to snap supernatural pictures of yourself and your friends.

‘Compared to previous Fatal Frame titles … there isn’t as much actual time spent with the game itself — that’s because you’ll also be spending time turning pages on the AR notebook and looking around in real life instead of moving your character around.’”

Like Fatal Frame IV, Nintendo will publish this in Japan, and has no plans yet to release this in the U.S.

New DS game from Etrian Odyssey director

Atlus and Shigeo Komori, director of the revered Etrian Odyssey first-person RPGs, is working on a new Nintendo DS title called Nora to Koku no Koubou: Kiri no Mori no Majo (Nora and the Engraving Studio: The Witch of the Forest of Mist), according to a report from this week’s issue of Famitsu translated by Andriasang.

Other than that, we know nothing else about the title, but I’m sure we’ll hear more about it soon. I’m just surprised Atlus is creating new IPs for the DS, and hasn’t moved the project to 3DS. That makes two DS titles we have to look forward to from the publisher — this and the Devil Survivor sequel (presuming they make it to the States).

Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions to include Pac-Man CE, Galaga Legions →

Hey, good news: Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions isn’t going to be terrible! The latest Famitsu reveals that in addition to the two new (and iffy) games on the 3DS cart, “Pac-Man Tilt” and “Galaga 3D Impact,” there are some proven good games in the collection!

Specifically, Pac-Man Championship Edition and Galaga Legions, both making their first appearances on Nintendo platforms. Dimensions will also include versions of Pac-Man and Galaga that are meant to look like they’re inside 3D arcade machines.

Super Street Fighter IV 3D online features mention dreaded friend codes

This week’s issue of Famitsu offers an outline of Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition online features, including options to immediately play against random opponents, use “custom match” parameters to search for others with the same settings, or duke it out with a friend.

On that last option, the Japanese magazine refers to a buddy list that you manage with friend codes — it doesn’t clarify if these are universal friend codes (used across all of a 3DS owner’s games) or game-specific friend codes, but many are already presuming it’s the latter.

The worst-case scenario here, and sadly the most likely one, is Nintendo hasn’t learned anything from the complaints about its clumsy friend codes, which has hampered online play with its systems for years.

We don’t know if that’s how things will turn out, though (we’ll probably learn more at the company’s January 19 press event). So, until then, we’ll reserve our forum outrage, facepalm JPGs, and Hitler reaction videos.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclock revealed in these blurry scanned pages from the latest Famitsu. Yes, that’s a long title, but if you can forgive yourself for it, feel free to refer to the game as Devil Survivor: The O.C.

This is essentially a 3DS remake of the Devil Survivor strategy RPG released less than two years ago for the Nintendo DS, adding full voice acting, an extra “8th Day” scenario, high res graphics, and more demons (150+ total).

It might seem a little silly for Atlus to remake a game that came out not too long ago, but it’s an easy way for the publisher to put out a quality game within the Nintendo 3DS’s launch window. Also, I doubt many people picked up the original, which I heard was quite good! Brandon Sheffield called it his favorite handheld game of 2009:

“The game had an interesting premise – the main downtown areas of Tokyo have been sealed off, and within 7 days, everyone inside the sealed area will die. It’s up to you, and your devil-summoning pals, to survive the incident in this branching-path, non-linear storyline.

Atlus has continued to prove that it’s one of the only companies trying to push the JRPG genre forward, and is doing so much to the delight and expansion of nascent Western audiences. SMT: Devil Survivor was one of the best, most complex, and most interesting core experiences on the DS…”

Famitsu says the game is 90 percent complete — I hope we’ll hear an announcement soon for the U.S.!

Konami, D3P unveil new 3DS games

The latest issue of Famitsu’s reveals that Konami has what looks like another Professor Layton clone (at least in its visual style) in the works, this time for  Nintendo 3DS and called Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights.

This new title follows mustachioed archeologist Lautrec and his companion Sophie in an adventure broken into four portions: events, battle, exploration and conversation.

D3P announced its own 3DS title for the U.S. today, an original arcade shooter titled Dream Trigger 3D, in which players “use sonar to detect sound to expose colorful enemies and blast them into explosive 3D patterns”.
