“Animal Crossing serenity meets Dark Souls brutality”
This scene is already awesome with just these images, but you should definitely check out this Sketchfab page that lets you rotate and zoom into the room. Really awesome work from the lead artist of Spiral Knights!
Now I want an Animal Crossing clone where I can decorate a haunted house.

Just your basic Spelunky slice of life. Angry shopkeepers after you forever.
Spelunky’s PS Plus discount has run out, but real talk, $15 is a fantastic price for a game that you can play forever, on two platforms. Or you can play the old version in Chrome for free! Or watch experts playing the game at PAX’s Spelunky Video Armageddon!
BUY PS Vita, upcoming games
Go!! Mighty No. 9 fanart ⊟
So how excited am I about Keiji Inafune’s Mighty No. 9? Excited enough to go to Deviant Art Dot Com, that’s how excited.
Also excited: actual artists, including emortal982, ReiDuran, Heilos, and TomyCase. Keep in mind that this isn’t just fanart of a game that nobody has played – it’s fanart of a game that does not yet exist, having not yet been made. There’s even a Tumblr collecting these now.
It’s pretty likely to be made, at least. The Kickstarter’s hit its initial pledge goal and is well over a million bucks at this point.
BUY Mega Man, MM25, upcoming games
Killer video game art like these pieces from dozens of contributors! Chip music performances from Virt, Danimal Cannon, and Super Soul Bros! Games from 17-BIT (Skulls o the Shogun) and Capy (Sword & Sworcery)! Drinks!
All of that for $10 at Seattle’s 1927 Events, from 7PM ‘til midnight. I am so jealous of everyone who gets to to this tonight. Don’t forget to tell Fangamer and Attract Mode who sent you there (and that they’re awesome people)!
Perfect-Dodge Peasant Lady from Dragon’s Crown
She’s probably the biggest badass in the game — the kid walking around with the bottle doesn’t take any hits either, but he doesn’t have a pot on his head. Meanwhile, the dude with the apples is quick to snitch to 5-0 if you bump him. Imma catch up to him later.
The artist behind this, DashXero, has more Dragon’s Crown art you can check out on his Tumblr.
Reese and Cyrus, by Bee & Puppycat creator Natasha Allegri
You know what’s also super adorable? Re-Tail’s music in Animal Crossing: New Leaf — imagine the sweet melody part as Reese, and the bass as Cyrus, and then them singing/playing together. I soooo love this song now. Thanks to Darling_Shivar for the pro-tip.
Can’t help myself / More Dragon’s Crown poking
If you watched that video of lecherous Dragon’s Crown players tapping inappropriate parts on NPCs, then you likely saw the segment with the Bound Spirit wearing a ridiculous and completely transparent outfit. Psoodoo’s parody GIF demonstrates just how ridiculous that pose and the entire scene is. If you look closely, you can see his toes curl with each poke.
We recorded a Dragon’s Crown podcast, by the way. Give it a listen.
Welcome to the SMTDS, Flynn!
New Leaf and Attack of the Friday Monsters have distracted us from playing or discussing this new Atlus RPG, but I promise we’ll be chatting a lot about it soon!
When’s it’s quiet at the town hall…
Though you kept me guessing and your distance
Were it not for my persistence
We would never have been lovers
You kept your distance and me guessing
Finally acquiescing only after I’d discovered
You kept the things I sent you
The lengths I went to
Happy 30th birthday, Famicom!
Isn’t this art from Gengenkob the best? Can you name all the character cameos?
The newest Pokémon is a… sword?
Debuting in Pokémon X and Y, Honedge is a Steel- and Ghost-type creature that seems awesome, even if it is just a sword with an eyeball. Here’s Honedge in action and a quick description:
"Honedge comes into being when a departed spirit possesses a sword that once belonged to humans. It can use the blue cloth attached to its hilt as nimbly as an arm. Pokémon Trainers who carelessly take this blade in hand may find the blue cloth wrapping itself around them and draining their energy!
Honedge can learn the attack Swords Dance, a Normal-type move. Swords Dance is a frenetic dance that uplifts the fighting spirit and sharply raises the user’s Attack stat. The effect can be increased by using this move multiple times in succession, helping Trainers who deploy this move at the beginning of a battle to overwhelm one opponent after another!”
PREORDER Pokemon X and Y, upcoming releases
This will be featured at iam8bit’s gallery show opening tomorrow in Los Angeles! More than 80 artists have provided pieces for the exhibit, which is nuts.
Square Enix has put out a list detailing a portion of the games it will show at E3 next week, but the tally doesn’t include any of Wii U or 3DS’s Dragon Quest games — there’s not even a mention of Bravely Default, though that may be because Nintendo is publishing it in the U.S. I’ll be very disappointed if we don’t hear anything about Dragon Quest X, Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D, Slime MoriMori Dragon Quest 3, or Dragon Quest VII.
