You know how, when you’re furtively eating a big bowl of raw meat with your hands, it makes you daydream about surfing? If you nodded affirmatively to that, hi Messhof!
Messhof has maybe the sweetest deal in games: he gets to make the weirdest stuff ever, and then a TV network pays for it and posts it. It’s pretty rad for us too, because we have a nice portal for all our favorite games about speed-eating, pulling off awesome surfing tricks named after burger toppings, and flipping burgers.

Game Boy-style cartridge for Cat Astro Phi, a new and fantastic action-adventure game by PhotonStorm. The entire thing is played inside a Game Boy frame and even features green-tinted graphics, but this is a Flash title you can play for free at Newgrounds.
Once you make it past the annoying shoot’em up controls in the intro, you’re dropped into what PhotonStorm describes as “a mini-Zelda in space.” It’s a charming little game, and there’s even music by Rich Vreeland of Disasterpeace! You can buy the soundtrack or stream it for free here.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective doesn’t come out here until January 11th, but thanks to Capcom and GameSpot, you can play a free Flash demo of the game online now!
Though I didn’t play through the entire thing, it seemed like a tutorial and introduction to the story, which you could probably figure out from most of the videos we’ve posted. Still, it’s a chance to see the game’s great animation and a hint of its humorous script.

Kabanera Shinkei Suijaku is a new promotional Flash game for the Japanese release of Ghost Trick, and it’s totally worth your time for reasons unrelated to gameplay.
The game itself is fine — it’s a pretty simple card-flipping, Memory-type deal — but the contents of the cards are what make it rad. Each card contains one of the game’s brilliantly animated sprites, in this case Inspector Kabanera. He dances, he bows, he … dances a different way, all in the game’s exaggerated, incredibly smooth style.
The real DS game will include much more animation, and a better game on top of that!

Finally, a Ninja Gaiden game in which I’ll (probably) be able to make it past the first few levels! This SMBC 1.1 update isn’t out yet, but if its development is far along enough to produce a trailer like this, I expect it will release soon.
Other NES heroes I want to see in this flash game: Little Nemo, Arthur (Ghosts N’ Goblins), Bionic Commando (how would this even work?), Golgo 13, Yo! Noid, and Vic Viper.
Buy: Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword ($13.79)

Super Mario Bros. Crossover opening screen. This crazy Flash game lets you play Super Mario Bros. as a series of NES heroes — Samus Aran, Bill Rizer, Mega Man, Simon Belmont, Mario Mario, and Link — taking into account their unique attacks and movement properties!
The controls are kinda crap, especially when trying to direct your jumps, but it’s certainly a curious project and even fun at some points. You can play it for free here, at least until someone sends a cease and desist for its infringement of a half dozen properties.

If you like the idea of an auto-scrolling running game with unicorns and Erasure, Robot Unicorn Attack comes highly recommended.

Canabalt creators Adam Atomic and Danny Baranowsky have released an updated version of the Flash game Gravity Hook, with the implication of an iPhone port on the way. Gravity Hook HD features the same gameplay as the original game, in which you click to grapple onto floating spheres, slingshotting past them to raise yourself to new heights.
But this one is infinitely better, because in Gravity Hook HD, not every damn orb is a bomb. If you want to try the update to the game about which noted website tinycartridge.com said “I’ve been loading the game up every other hour…” click here and be ready for a moderate amount of frustration.

Auntie Pixelante’s latest game, When Pigs Fly, hit Newgrounds yesterday. It’s a Flash game about a pig escaping from a cave by sprouting wings, part Joust and part Irritating Stick, with wonderful pixel art and the cutest piggy noises I’ve ever heard.
I played all the way through it even though Flash freezes every 1-2 seconds on my computer, which added an extra layer of difficulty (not only did I experience many extra deaths due to sudden freezes, I also had to prevent myself from throwing my computer down the stairs).
Play it and post your scores here! I want to feel terrible about my own skill.

I’ve no idea if the flash is manually activated, or if it is somehow synchronized with your DSi — my guess is that for $14.99, the solution is going to be ghetto as hell. Maybe it’s just a tiny light that you can switch on and off.
One cool thing about the cover is that it has a sliding lens protector, which still doesn’t make up for this contraption’s inability to fit into any compact DSi pouches.
The DSi 3-In-1 Flash Cover is available in White, Blue, Black, and Pink. Presumably, it also comes with the screen protectors and the screen wipe shown in the product shots.
