Famitsu Game Boy Light Skeleton Edition. eBay seller ramrodius is selling this extremely rare “Event Version” of the Famitsu exclusive clear model of the Game Boy Light, with a starting bid of £200 ($288.64).

Here’s the thing, though. It’s sealed in that amazing packaging, which is both good and bad. I mean, the beautiful artwork pretty much makes that whole thing worth buying on its own, but it’s probably going to sting a little to realize that you’ve just purchased a Game Boy that you can never open. For that matter, I’d prefer that you didn’t touch it too much, or at least wear some damn gloves.

[Update: Okay, commentor JDavis notes it’s not sealed, as evidenced by the missing batteries! Bow bow.]

Tezuka Osamu World Shop edition Game Boy Light. This rare transparent red Game Boy Light features a bunch of Tezuka characters on the front. I love everything about it, except that it costs $189.99 on eBay. There’s another one without the box available for “just” $108.90.

Gameboy Light Famitsu Skeleton box.

I’ve seen this special edition system before (of which only 5,000 were produced), but this is the first time I’ve come across it in this black box. Apparently, this is the “Mail Order Version” of the handheld.

The “Event Version” is the one I’m more familiar with, its packaging pairing a whimsically drawn redhead astronaut with a bullet list of features rife with sexual innuendo.

The Mail Order and Event editions are essentially the same — though the latter is marked with a unique number on its packaging — both feature a clear shell and white buttons. As with the Japan-only Game Boy Light, which was about the same size as the Game Boy Pocket but included a backlight and used 2 AA batteries, the Famitsu versions were never released in the States.

You should definitely add this to your “potential things to buy Eric for his birthday” list.
