Haggle Man and Demon cameos in Super Mario Bros. Crossover 2.0 (skip to 2:52 - 3:06)!!! Okay, this video/indie project is so rad for dozens of reasons, but I can’t believe these two little-known heroes from Game Center CX and Retro Game Challenge’s fake retro titles made it into this thing! We’re told that they’re only alternate costumes for other characters right now, but they may become playable characters eventually.

Developer Jay Pavlina will release this as a Flash game some time during the first quarter of 2012 — why Nintendo hasn’t hired this man yet to design an official Super Mario Bros. remix for its consoles is beyond me. You can play the original version of Super Mario Bros. Crossover, which is amazing in its own right, over here.

Watch the Game Center CX USA Special →

Valiant Something Awful members have translated, subtitled, and posted the recent two-hour Game Center CX special in which Arino and his crew visit California. You can see the episode in the YouTube video above, or download it here when the video is inevitably pulled.

In this episode, we see Arino play vintage games at the Musee Mecanique, irritate a serious Skee-Ball player, and compare the owner of a suburban game shop to a tired Mario. There are also appearances by Ray Barnholt and Attract Mode’s Adam Robezzoli! So awesome.

The challenge this time is Data East’s Robocop game for NES, which looks really, really bad.

Retro Game Challenge 1 and 2 characters, drawn by Ashley Davis. Ashley went on a GCCX character spree last week on her fanart blog No Marios Allowed, but we were both indisposed at the time — Eric busting his ass on TGS news, me busting my ass at TGS.

So enjoy these images now — like you have a choice to do anything but enjoy them! Look at that Arino! Look at that Wiz-Man! If I were in charge of an American release of Retro Game Challenge 2 (and to be clear, I’m not, and neither is anyone else), I’d have already hired Ashley for the boxart.

Shinya Arino’s Retro Game Master business card and signed Game Center CX instruction manual (click for larger image). I wonder if that card is a super collectible, since it’s an English version, unlike the ones that come in Japanese copies of GCCX/GCCX2.

The excess Tokyo Game Show news this week delayed all the GCCX stuff I wanted to post from last week:

Game Center CX’s Shinya Arino visiting fans at Los Angeles’ Japan Arcade last night. If you skip to the 4:05 mark, you can see him receiving and reacting to the poster from Nina Matsumoto that we featured two days ago.

And after that, you’ll see a lady totally freaking out over meeting Arino. Not going to lie, had I been able to make it, that would’ve been me, except more high pitched.

You can see photos that fans took at the event on the Retro Game Master USA Facebook page. If you were there, make sure to post/link your own experiences in the comments!

Game Center CX fanart by Nina “Space Coyote” Matsumoto. Matsumoto drew up this very American fanart, rife with game references, in honor of host Shinya Arino’s upcoming LA appearance. “Getting this printed by someone who’s attending their fan event in Los Angeles this Friday so they could give it to Arino as a present.”

Now, not only do I want to see pictures from the trip, I want to see pictures of reactions to this picture.

Meet Game Center CX's Arino in LA Friday →

Kacho ON! A plane! Game Center CX star Shinya Arino will be at the Japan Arcade in LA’s Little Tokyo Galleria this week, to meet American fans of the show. Maybe you can challenge him to complete an arcade game live in front of you! He would love that, I’m sure.

Ray Barnholt says the trip, and a subsequent visit to SF, will be for use in the show next month. If you live in LA, go say hi! You might meet the Kacho, and you might get on Game Center CX, and you’ll definitely earn our jealousy. It’s really important, if you go, to take lots of pictures and send them to us.

The event is September 9 at 7pm.

Game Center CX’s Shinya Arino screws around with the Nintendo 3DS’s stereoscopic 3D display in this special eShop episode — available only in Japan.

So,this week Japan gets Arino antics, Europe gets a 3D trailer for WayForward’s Mighty Switch Force, and we get… Nintendo Show 3D! Has anyone watched this yet? What do you think? How does it compare to Nintendo Week? And why is it streaming on the eShop instead of appearing in the Nintendo Video app?

Retro Game Challenge 2 translation update!

Can you believe this is our 5000th post on this goofy site? I was worried we wouldn’t find a news post befitting this milestone, but news about the fan translation for Game Center CX 2 Retro Game Challenge 2, one of our most anticipated tiny cartridges ever, is perfect for the occasion!

We haven’t heard much about the translation team’s efforts since its site launched in February, but they’ve now revamped the project page to make it easier to relay updates. It’s still light on content, but you can see a few new English screenshots from there. Make sure to click the sprites at the bottom, too, for some nice character art.

Ryuza, who maintains the site, tells us that we’ll likely get some new screenshots soon to show off the progress made from project lead Xvirus and his team. He adds, “From what I’ve seen, the translators have a lot of the text from the conversations with Arino translated, so things are going pretty well.” I’m just thrilled this isn’t dead!

Game Center CX’s Shinya Arino vs. the Angry Video Game Nerd, by Jaime Herrera (click for larger image).

I love the Nerd, but he is just outclassed in this match. Arino’s Ultra Combo, where he sends opponents back to the ’80s to play old video games and complete challenges while a younger version of him cheers along, is a doozy.

Have you kept up with the Game Center CX/Retro Game Master episodes Kotaku has been airing? The latest episode is for The Mystery Of Atlantiswatch it here!

Arino vs. Bonanza Bros on Retro Game Master →

I’m late posting this, but I still think every time a new episode of Kotaku’s localization of Game Center CX runs, it’s a momentous enough occasion to tell you about. So!

This week, it’s season 5, episode 3, in which Arino challenges Bonanza Bros, a Mega Drive game about burglarizing buildings and hiding from the cops, starring two guys whose toys I would get constantly from capsule machines in Shenmue. The episode is up right now, so enjoy!

Arino enters the Super Fantasy Zone this week on Retro Game Master →

Sometime around Thursday at 8PM EST, depending on whether or not the Viddler servers are up, Kotaku will “premiere” its next episode of the localized Game Center CX. This week’s Retro Game Master is Season 8’s Super Fantasy Zone challenge, in which Arino attempts the Mega Drive’s Defender-style cute-em-up.

You can see a trailer on Kotaku — sadly, I couldn’t figure out a way to embed it here, so my ability to advertise for their show is impaired. (Ahem.) And if you’d like to play along, Super Fantasy Zone is out on Virtual Console.
