DS/3DS Release Dates & Sales // Tiny Cartridge Stickers For Your Games!

Rumor: Xenoblade Chronicles coming to the U.S. in April, possibly as a GameStop exclusive, according to this alleged photo of the retail chain’s slate of upcoming Wii releases.

If this is true, Xenoblade would join the company of other illustrious GameStop exclusives like Chulip and Tenchu: Dark Secret. But who cares, at least we’ll be getting this!

And I definitely want it to be true, as this is the same Monolith Soft-developed game that Simon Parkin called ”the strongest JRPG to emerge in years” in his review when Xenoblade released in Europe.

Also, all those people who called The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword the Wii’s swan song would look awfully silly — serves them right for forgetting about Rhythm Heaven Fever, which will finally come out here in February (or early March, if this photo is to be trusted).

[Update: Nintendo of America just updated its Facebook page with Xenoblade artwork. Looks true!]

Zelda 3DS bundle coming to US after all →

It’s a Black Friday miracle! GameStop’s sale circular reveals that the Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D 3DS bundle contains the special Zelda-themed 3DS announced for Europe — and not a normal Cosmo Black 3DS as previously thought!

GameStop is charging $199 for it, which I guess is a $10 savings over buying the game and the 3DS separately. But Best Buy’s going to have it for $179.99. I’m sure Amazon will have a similar price, and you won’t have to spend your entire Thanksgiving outside of a damn store with people ready to go full-on barbarian for a TV.

Boxart and preorder case for Resident Evil: Revelations, which has just been announced for a February 7, 2012 release date for the U.S. (in time for Valentine’s Day!)

“Set between the events of RE4 and RE5, the all new episodic narrative sees fan favorite characters Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield paired with new BSAA members Parker Luciani and Jessica Sherawat on their search to discover the truth about the Veltro terrorist organization and the T-Abyss virus outbreak.

Players will need to make use of the unique Nintendo 3DS touch screen to solve puzzles and switch between weapons as they try to survive the horror that awaits them around every corner. Environments will need to be scanned with the Genesis Scanner to reveal hidden items and identify enemies.”

The image on the case changes in the sunlight apparently, which I guess is kind of cool? Too bad you can only get it by reserving the 3DS title at GameStop.

Buy Bit.Trip Saga at GameStop, get 'Soundtrack Sampler' →

If you’re weighing the decision between Bit.Trip Saga on 3DS and Bit.Trip Complete on Wii (that is, if you’re not in the “dammit I’m buying both” or “dammit I’m buying both even though I have them on WiiWare, PC, and iPhone HELP ME” groups), this offer might help. GameStop is throwing in a “Soundtrack Sampler” of the series’ excellent, excellent music with online orders of the 3DS game.

Which excellent music, from which games? No idea! It might be the guest tracks from Bit.Shifter, Minusbaby, Anamanaguchi, et al., or it might be the rad in-game music. Of course, Bit.Trip Complete also comes with a soundtrack disc, regardless of where you buy it from, so, uh, disregard that bit about this helping your decision any.

Cooking Mama plush doll, free with pre-order of Cooking Mama 4 at GameStop. Something looks slightly off about the face on this doll, but it’s still pretty dang cute! If you can identify what it is that’s bothering me, though please do — because I can’t.

I’ve only seen this available at GameStop, so if you want a little plush companion to watch you break eggs, you’ll have to pre-order the 3DS game from there.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D poster, a pre-order bonus from GameStop … in Canada. So, in the UK, you get a special gold package for pre-ordering. In Australia, you get an ocarina. Amazon Germany offers a tin, and Nintendo of Greece throws all kinds of junk at you.

So far, neither Nintendo nor any US retailer has offered a thing. While it’s not really cool to expect free shit (Link, the Hero of Time, expected nothing but to get locked in a temple for seven years), seeing other regions get tchotchkes inspires a bit of jealousy.

PSA: Meet Dragon Quest’s Yuji Horii this Saturday

Nintendo sent out a press release today to remind people of its Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation launch event at Palo Alto, CA’s GameStop “Store of the Future.” If you’re in the area and can make it there around 1 PM on Saturday, you can pick up a copy two days before its release date and meet Yuji Horii, the creator of the series! He’ll sign stuff for the first 50 people.

So why would you want to go to this thing and meet Mr. Horii? We’ve got a few ideas:

  1. Interact with Horii in Dragon Quest IX’s Tag Mode! Dude’s probably carrying, like, the sweetest map.
  2. You’re @pieboyM, and you won a free trip from Nintendo in a trivia contest.
  3. Free stuff! Nintendo’s giving away some kind of prizes.
  4. You could don your finest fur poncho and deliver a hand-made Valenslime to Horii.
  5. You could pick up a signed copy to send as a tribute to the dearly departed Edith.

On the subject of Dragon Quest launches, the video above is a Japanese news report about the launch of Dragon Quest III, which happened 23 years ago today.

Kinda boring Monster Tale preorder offer at GameStop →

So, here’s the bad news. If you preorder DreamRift/Majesco’s Monster Tale at GameStop, you get an exclusive … code for a new color scheme for Ellie and 5% off at in-game shops. Five whole percent! The good news is that such a code exists, and will be available to all five minutes after the game is released.

In case you’ve missed this game, it’s a new DS platformer from part of the Henry Hatsworth team, in which the top screen is a platformer about a little girl saving a world of monsters from evil kids, and the bottom screen is home to her pet monster, Chomp, who you can feed and grow into several different forms. I played it at E3 and found it more interesting than the “virtual pet” bit may make it sound.

And here’s the recent trailer:

Slime plush preorder bonus for Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation. GameStop’s got an adorable Valentine for those who put deposits down on the DS RPG remake: a free Slime plush!

This looks exactly like the little 4” tall Smile Slime plush I got from Square Enix’s shop at TGS. This offer is way easier than flying to Japan and grappling with the TGS shopping crowds! Plus you get, you know, a video game, which is nice.

Buy: Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies ($24.99, not bad!)

Nintendo 3DS system, games preorders

Starting today, GameStop is accepting preorders for the Nintendo 3DS — I believe most stores require a $50 deposit, though some report that several shops are taking $25. The retailer should contact you once final pricing and colors for the system in North America are announced, likely following the January 19th press event.

I personally prefer to buy my games/consoles elsewhere, so I’ll wait for other shops to begin taking reservations, like Best Buy, Amazon, or Toys R’ Us.

Also, Amazon is taking preorders for several Nintendo 3DS titles, mostly Konami games, anticipating prices of $34.99 to $39.99 (not the final prices, of course):

Crafting Mama DS stylus, a preorder bonus for the upcoming DS game from GameStop. I was going to post this with the joke “if they were really serious about crafting, they’d just pack an instruction sheet and you could make it your damn self,” and I was proud of that. Then I showed this to Eric and he noted that you would “need to buy two copies to actually knit with it.” Which is clearly so much better!

Anyway, I really want one of these. I totally find the character endearing. She helps you cook food and stuff, and sometimes her eyes are on fire, and her English is not perfect.

Space Invaders Extreme 2 for $5 (in-store) →

Though GameStop doesn’t have any to sell online, if you can bring yourself to visit your local shop, you can pick up a new copy of Space Invaders Extreme 2 for just $4.99. You might want to check the site’s “store availability” or call ahead to make sure your visit isn’t fruitless.

I remember buying the original Space Invaders Extreme for the same price — money well spent — but lost it along with other cherished DS carts during my move last year. Might be time to replace it!

Also, why didn’t Square Enix ever release Space Invaders Extreme Z in the U.S. That’s some ol’ bullshit.

Oh, and speaking of sales, Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen is only $17.99 at Amazon right now.
