Yakuza Direct
I was watching the US Nintendo Direct yesterday, so I missed this significant development in Nintendo Direct Gesture Semiotics over in the Japanese stream, with Satoru Iwata and Sega CCO Toshihiro Nagoshi revealing the Yakuza-themed Ring Flash Direct. GIF via HN3DS, because I tried and failed to make one of my own. :(
It’s to signify the announcement of the Yakuza 1&2 HD Collection coming to Wii U, an announcement that somehow manages to be both totally minor and totally desperate. Like, Yakuza’s a big deal in Japan, but these are old games, and even the HD versions came out on PS3 back in December…
The good news is that since Nintendo of America is also desperate for Wii U games, maybe we’ll get the collection over here! Both have been translated, after all (and Yakuza 1 fully localized with English voices).
I love the Yakuza games. Part RPG, part soap opera, part tourism, part brawler, part absolute nonsense…

Where we’re going, we don’t need official boxart
Because something like this works just fine. Don’t forget that preorders are now open at Amazon for the 3DS sequel to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past!
And don’t forget about these still active deals either:
Fire Emblem: Awakening - $29.99 (backordered, sidebar link)
Super Mario 3D Land - $29.99
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D - $29.99 (backordered, sidebar link)
Mario Kart 7 - $29.99
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate - $24.99 (backordered, sidebar link)
Kid Icarus: Uprising is also $31.99, which is a decent deal for a great game. Don’t forget that it comes with a banana stand.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf’s fortune teller

Katrina set up her tent in my town the other day and offered to tell me my fortune for a nominal fee. Now, I dont usually believe in all this astronomy nonsense or what have you, but I’m telling you, something weird happened there. I was floating in space for a second, and I saw an owl flying backwards, but there was no owl. And a faraway voice sang:

night so dark
where are you?
come back in my heart
so dark
so dark

I ran home and slipped into some hot pants. Also made sure my New Leaf character wore shorts that day.

Tiny Cartridge & Etrian Odyssey IV QR code

Etrian Odyssey IV owners, here’s one more quest you can send your party to complete in the game, if you don’t mind taking orders from some Tumblr blog’s mascot. Though you’ll need to have reached The Hall of Darkness (6th Maze) to access the quest, if you’re not at that point yet, you’ll have this whole weekend to fight your way there! :oP

I was supposed to post this forever ago, I know, but at least more of you will have played enough of the game to be able to unlock the quest now! Much thanks to @oliviactually and @kamiwoo for their help.

Nintendo Direct’s 3DS highlights
There was a minimal amount of 3DS news in this morning’s Nintendo Direct (you could say the same about interesting Wii U announcements), but I was happy to hear a couple minor but nice items about the eShop.
First, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons will sell for only $4.99 each during its first three weeks on the storefront (starting May 30). After that, the Game Boy Color releases will go for $5.99 each.
And there’s over a dozen more Game Gear titles coming to 3DS Virtual Console:
Columns
Crystal Warriors
Defenders of Oasis
Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
G-LOC: Air Battles
Shining Force II: The Sword of Hajya
Sonic Blast
Sonic Drift 2
Sonic Labyrinth
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Tails Adventure
Vampire: Master of Darkness
The other 3DS announcements today:

Ace Attorney 5 demo
Just like it has for every Ace Attorney game, Capcom has put together a web demo of Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies. And just like I have for every Ace Attorney game, I’m going to try to play this demo in Japanese because I CANNOT WAIT.
My Japanese is awful. This is a game that relies entirely on wordplay and careful reading. Have fun!

Welcome to Paradise

Just making sure people will feel welcome when they visit my Animal Crossing: New Leaf town.

We all need somewhere we can go and be happy and be ourselves and be silly if we want to. As the mayor here, that’s the kind of town I’m trying to build. There’s no judging here.

Disk Zero [DEMO]

“Disk Zero” by Demoscene Time Machine

I’m not sure about most of you, but when summer starts rolling around for me, I start thinking about what I’ll be listening to on those hot summer nights. All signs are pointing to this summer being the summer of disco (see the brand new Daft Punk album), so here’s a delightfully chunky nu-disco/house track from Demoscene Time Machine, all the way from Stockholm, Sweden.

Sweet Shin Megami Tensei IV art

Ahead of Shin Megami Tensei IV’s release in Japan next week (where Famitsu just gave the 3DS game a 37/40, which probably means nothing or maybe something or whatever), Atlus posted these nice pieces from guest artists like Tomomi Kobayashi, Hideo Minaba, Enami Katsumi, and Mitsumi Inomata.

And over in North America, Atlus put out this new English trailer for the game:

The Starship Damrey delivers the HAM to eShop

This Guild02 horror/adventure is out in North America and Europe today, priced at $7.99. It’ll take you only 1-2 hours to get through, but that might be a plus to some people. Apparently if you’ve downloaded any Guild01 games in the past (they’re all on sale!), you’ll be able to unlock a bonus scenario.

If visual novels aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other new downloads you can check out — seriously this week is loaded, offering two 3DS Virtual Console titles and at least one quality eShop game. Wii U’s Virtual Console also went HAM, throwing out Super Ghouls’n Ghosts and Super Metroid.

Animal Crossing’s Isabelle in Nendoroid form

She comes with a question mark accessory. Her hair has a real bell in it. This is just unfair. Good Smile Company’s Nendoroid Isabelle/Shizue perfectly replicates the Animal Crossing: New Leaf assistant, allowing you to relive your first days in Buttocks.

The figurine ships in October, and you can find it at whatever your favorite import toy retailer is. Jlist has preorders up for $42.
