Handhelds in Havana, Cuba

Cuba lifted its ban on consumer electronic sales in 2008, when Raul Castro took over as president in place of his ailing brother Fidel. Kids there can now play GBA SPs and other gaming handhelds (though, on an unrelated but odd note, they can’t listen to Reggaeton on the radio — the country recently banned Reggaeton music from its airwaves due to the genre’s often sexually aggressive themes).

“Optimal 3DS playing position” by Jackson Wright

This was me about 20 years ago, except I was playing Mega Man: Dr. Wily’s Revenge on a Game Boy. The 3DS game that’s kept this boy preoccupied in his Mario pajamas is Paper Mario: Sticker Star.

“I spent two hours in the library playing Pokemon” - Liza. Ey, real quick, lemme preach at you kids for a minute.

I am all for gettin your handheld gaming on whenever you can, but you’re missing out on a lot of great books when you don’t take advantage of the time you have stuck in a library. I’ve read so many things that have stuck with me while at the library, passing time during lunch breaks or waiting for my ride to pick me up, just pulling whatever book had a nice cover or interesting title.

Anyway, enjoy your Pokerman video games — just don’t forget to feed your brain a book or two when you can.
