This piece from the pixel prince, as well as tributes from other artists, will be at iam8bit’s launch party for The Art of Ooo and The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom tonight. If you’re in Los Angeles, stop by — it’s free!
The Art of Ooo is the massive (350+ pages) artbook for the show, coming out in a couple weeks with a foreword by acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom is the Little Orbit and WayForward joint coming to 3DS, PlayStation 3, PS Vita, Xbox 360, and PC in mid-November.
This will be featured at iam8bit’s gallery show opening tomorrow in Los Angeles! More than 80 artists have provided pieces for the exhibit, which is nuts.
Square Enix has put out a list detailing a portion of the games it will show at E3 next week, but the tally doesn’t include any of Wii U or 3DS’s Dragon Quest games — there’s not even a mention of Bravely Default, though that may be because Nintendo is publishing it in the U.S. I’ll be very disappointed if we don’t hear anything about Dragon Quest X, Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D, Slime MoriMori Dragon Quest 3, or Dragon Quest VII.
"Irem vs Taito" by Paul Robertson (click for a much larger image). It’s pixelart pandemonium as the titans of these two Japanese video game publishers duke it out!
Hammerin’ Harry versus the Puzzle Bobble Crew! Ninja Baseball Bat Man versus Time Gal's Reika! R-Type crafts versus Darius ships! Mr. Heli versus Invaders! The only battle missing is the kusoge match-up of the millenium, Deadly Towers' Prince Myer versus Beat Takeshi.
Robertson created this image and two others — one based on Konami’s obscure arcade beat’em up Violent Storm, and another NSFW piece for Custer’s Revenge — for the Super iam8bit show. See them all here.
Perfect reminder to watch some King of Famicom.
