Earthbound creator and Nintendo collaborate for another fun thing ⊟

Hobonichi, the Japanese company headed by Mother/Earthbound creator Shigesato Itoi and the maker of fine daily planners, has teamed up with Nintendo for a cute, unexpected product: Super Mario Bros. and Mr. Saturn haramaki belly warmers.

They’re part of Hobonichi’s 2014 Summer Collection, available on the company’s online store now. Pingmag and the Hobonichi Love blog explain the accessory’s appeal:

"The haramaki was once strictly functional underwear that had a grandpa-image similar to yellowing long johns. In 2001, Hobonichi reinvented them as fashion items to layer with your clothes.

You know those everyday momentary chills you get when you bend over and your shirt rides up a little? Gone. I see London, I see France, I see someone’s wearing a super handsome belly warmer over their pants. Studies have proven that wearing this thick, extra layer around your stomach keeps the rest of your body warm in the winter. It’s also great in the summer when trapped inside all day under a blasting air conditioner.”

You can find instructions on how to purchase a haramaki from Hobonichi’s Japanese site here. More photos after the break!

3DS XL Cyber Arcade Kit ⊟

Add another one to the list of fun Cyber Gadget accessories! This lets you attach a balltop arcade stick on top of your 3DS XL’s directional pad, which I’m sure will benefit a number of games. Expect this to release in Japan on October 31 for ¥3,002 ($30).

Etrian Odyssey 2 remake announced ⊟

As with Etrian Odyssey Untold: Millennium Girl, Atlus is remaking the second DS game from its first-person RPG series, subtitling this sequel Knight of Fafnir, according to Gematsu. It will release in Japan this Winter.

The 3DS remake will feature animation from Madhouse (Summer Wars, Etrian Odyssey Untold), a story campaign with premade characters, and a new feature that allows the protagonist to transform into a darker version of himself during battles, presumably with special abilities.

Design Cover Dot for 3DS XL/LL ⊟

Bravely Second screens, art ⊟

I can’t get enough of Akihiko Yoshida’s art — the close-up of Agnès comes from a scan of Famitsu's recent issue. See the full piece here.

Few items we’ve learned about the game recently:

  • Sales for Bravely Default (including the original version released in Japan), crossed one million units, 600,000 of those from the West
  • Supercell’s ryo will provide new music for Bravely Second instead of Default's original composer Revo
  • Producers Tomoya Asano and Shinji Takahashi, aided by Souki Tsukishima, will take over writing duties from Naotaka Hayashi
  • Classes shown so far: Valkyrie, Performer, Red Mage, and Time Mage
  • One of the cities featured in the game, Guatelatio (shown above), serves as the Crystal Orthodoxy’s headquarters, and “sits at the entrance to the highway that leads to the Temple of Earth and the Holy Land,” according to details from the official site translated by Gematsu

Dark Witch’s Story - Chronicle 2D ACT on 3DS in Japan ⊟

Yep, that’s the title. This is a doujin/indie game by circle INSIDE SYSTEM, featuring a composer from the new fighter Under Night In-Birth, and an artist involved with Gaist Crusher. Kinda neat to see doujin-type stuff making it onto 3DS eShop!

I’m also into the look of this game in general. Cute sprites, and kind of a Mega Man-but-also-Kid-Dracula gameplay vibe. It’s out August 6 in Japan.

Uh oh, you can buy those Sega shirts from Japan ⊟

@zerochan spotted the Geek Life Sega shirts I posted before – the amazing silhouette and all-over designs – as well as these new ones, for sale on Amiami. A bit of a problem for someone who might feel compelled to spend $50+ on some Opa-Opa or Altered Beast stuff.

Problem or opportunity, I guess, depending on your finances/impulse control.

One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X ⊟
While One Piece Unlimited World Red just released in the U.S., Japan will be getting another 3DS title based on the license this winter from Bandai Namco, according to Shonen Jump's scan posted by Redon. From what I can tell, One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X allows ups to four-players to battle it out in tag-team matches, offering some 85 playable fighters.
It looks like this is a successor to One Piece: Gigant Battle!, the Japan-only fighting series from Ganbarion that played a lot like the Jump Ultimate/Super Stars games. Those never released in North America (the first Gigant Battle hit Europe), but we’re getting more One Piece games, so maybe that will change with this one.
If you want to hear some impressions on Unlimited World Red, by the way, make sure to listen to the latest TinyCast episode!

Subtitled trailer for the new Fatal Frame ⊟

Cheers to PepsimanGB for subtitling the trailer Tecmo Koei put out last week for Fatal Frame: The Raven-Haired Shrine Maiden. I was one of the people who asked for subtitles when he offered to put this video together, so it would’ve been a jerk move if I didn’t share this after he went through all that trouble.

Again, this releases for the Wii U in Japan on September 27.

Fatal Frame: The Raven-Haired Shrine Maiden ⊟

Even though it’s not a handheld game and the horror series hasn’t made it to the West in some time (not counting the Spirit Camera spin-off), I love Fatal Frame so I had to share this new trailer from the Wii game. This time around, players will use the Wii U GamePad like a camera, moving it around to follow ghosts in order to stun and capture them.

Gematsu offered these details:

"It is set in Hikamiyama, a sacred mountain with a huge lake at its summit from which water gushes abundantly throughout the mountain. It’s a mountain of death, and only those who choose on their own to die go there. They enter the mountain at oumagatoki (the witching hour), when the boundary between the world of the living and the world of the dead is blurred. The game’s story revolves around the concept of water.

The protagonist is named Kozukata Yuuri. She can see those who have been spirited away and captured in the world of the dead and return them to this world. Responding to the requests of those who have been taken, Yuuri visits Mt. Hikamiyama.”

Nintendo will release the Tecmo Koei-developed title in Japan on September 27, a day after the debut of Fatal Frame's live-action film.
