Yo-kai Watch furikake ⊟

What kind of rice should you have with your next meal? How about Yo-kai Watch flavored rice! J-List has this box with four different flavors of seasoning for your rice, none of which are likely to actually taste like ghosts or monsters. (More like salmon and eggs)

Oh, and you get a sticker, of course!

Yes of course you want to see a trailer for Mega Slowbro ⊟

It gets its power from being slowly eaten. Its Mega Evolution makes the parasite Shellder eating it only more powerful. And somehow it’s cute as heck. Pokemon is for the children.

Please consider this Dangan Rooster ⊟

Here is a screenshot sent out by NIS America for Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, in which a robotic teddy bear points a magic wand at a rooster, with dramatic lighting and effects.

If I was not already totally looking forward to this game, these totally out of context images would definitely pique my interest. Like, what is going on here.

Let’s learn about Harvest Moon's cute animals ⊟

Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley introduces new “traits” for its farm animals, which affect their stats. Here are some examples released by Natsume:

Winter/Spring/Summer/Fall – This season is the animal’s favorite! Their affection level will go up faster in that season.

Elegant – These animals really, really hate being dirty! You’ll get a big affection bonus when you brush them. The higher an animal’s affection, the higher quality products they’ll produce, as well as a higher quantity of that product!

It’s possible to breed these traits into future generations, or create more beneficial traits through breeding:

Great Goods becomes High-Quality Goods: These animals have a strong and powerful body! Because of that, they will sometimes produce higher-quality products.

More Goods becomes Super Goods: These animals are gifted with fantastic health! Because of that, they will sometimes produce a higher quantity of products.

They all come with “really frickin’ cute” by default.

These Ghost Trick iPhone cases ⊟

This is the hot look for iPhones. All the Ghost Trick characters dancing with that one nervous cop. The cat one is pretty amazing too. Man, what a game that is.

These, and many other classic Capcom designs, are on pre-order through e-Capcom. No idea if they’ll be sold outside of Japan, but NCSX tends to get some e-Capcom goods…

Catching up with Magical Beat ⊟
I’ve had Arc System Works’ Magical Beat for a few weeks now, and I haven’t really been able to post impressions for various, totally not exciting reasons. But I wanted to make sure you all knew about this neat Vita puzzler, because its concept totally captured my imagination – and it’s a fun execution of that concept!
Basically, Magical Beat is a Puyo Puyo-type falling block game in which you drop three-block units to match three or more adjacent blocks, clearing them off the screen and sending junk to your opponent’s side.
The twist is that you have to drop the pieces to the beat of the (J-Poppy, Miku-y) background music. I mean, you don’t have to; but you’ll want to if you want the blocks to actually go where they’re supposed to and not flop disappointingly into random spots on the screen.
This simple change in the puzzle game style – the rhythm element – makes Magical Beat feel totally different from any other puzzle game I’ve played, and makes me wonder why nobody tried such a mashup before.
Sure, there’s Lumines, but with Lumines it’s different. The music and the puzzling meld together in that game to induce a sort of flow state, guiding your brain into effortless block gymnastics while your conscious mind descends into a trance.

Magical Beat’s music, on the other hand, adds pressure, forcing you to be on high alert at all times while you juggle puzzle strategy and rhythm. It’s the anti-Lumines in that the music is almost a disruptive element, a way to make the game more challenging.
It’s not quite at “puzzle game classic” yet – it’ll need a few more iterations with additional single- and multiplayer modes to add variety – but Magical Beat really feels like a worthy puzzle game. It adds something new, or at least combines two old things in a novel way.

Super Smash Bros. 3DS borrows difficulty system from Kid Icarus: Uprising ⊟

The “Fiend’s Cauldron” was one of the coolest things about Kid Icarus: Uprising (screenshot on the right), a dynamic difficulty system that let you fine tune exactly how tough you wanted each stage to be – with greater rewards for success, and greater losses of in-game currency for failure. The scaling difficulty really worked, and it was exciting. And now it’s back for Smash Bros.’ single-player mode!

This kind of weird stuff is why I love Sakurai games. Nobody else would dare take a whole mechanic directly from his last game – a game that didn’t really perform all that well and didn’t get much attention – and graft it wholesale onto a AAA holiday release.

3D printed Space Invaders toilet paper holder ⊟
This, this is why we’ve invented 3D printing technology. In the past, it would have been difficult and costly to produce a toilet paper holder shaped like a Space Invader – too difficult to make even this entirely necessary item practical.
But because we can now produce items quickly and easily from a machine, given only a 3D model, you can buy your very own Space Invader in a variety of materials and colors, for only twenty bucks, from Etsy user TheTajMahalo. This is what the future looks like: a blocky alien from 1978 kindly handing you your TP, forever. Via Miki800.
