Monster Hunter Zinogre figure
Okay, so I haven’t seen a Zinogre in MH3U yet – I’m still dealing with the occasional Arzuros and failing half the time at that – but I already like this figure.
Not going to lie, it’s entirely because of the lil’ hunter it comes with, for you to swipe away like it’s nothing. The figure is up for preorder at Jlist for $55, or your retailer of choice.

Hakuoki 3DS coming to the U.S.
Hakuoki, the otome visual novel about romancing fictional, pretty versions of the Shinsengumi, is being released on 3DS in North America courtesy of Aksys (retail and on eShop — thanks to The Gay Gamer for getting to the bottom of that).
Hakuoki: Memories of the Shinsengumi contains the content from the PSP game, as well as six new stories and a photo/movie gallery, so you can gaze upon what Aksys’s lead editor Ben Bateman described as “hot mans.” There’s even a photo booth feature so you can pose with said mans.

Crazy Construction for 3DS eShop

In this new game by G-Style, you drop junk into a hole and then… eventually… buildings happen. Kinda reminds me of Trash Panic, but not exactly. Some features that make me really want to play this:

  • NUISANCE GAUGE
  • An evil construction company that wants to see you fail!
  • Building around black holes!

It comes out this Thursday for 5 bucks.

Shin Megami Tensei 4 3DS skins

With these skins by Dezaegg, you can make your 3DS or 3DS XL look like the SMT4 main character’s torso! Just don’t cover up your SMT4 special edition 3DS with one of these…

They’ll ship May 23 from Play-Asia, for $29.90 each.

Ace Attorney 5 trailer

Looks SO GOOD in 3D! Of course, the resolution of this trailer is way better than actual 3DS graphics, but I’m at least hopeful it won’t look so bad in 3D now.

And, as Eric pointed out, the existence of high res assets makes it easy to port to tablets/phones later, without messes like those redrawn sprites in the recent iOS remake.

The opening scene is a really unfortunate coincidence.

Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale

As part of the ridiculously overloaded Nintendo Direct this morning, Nintendo revealed that the Guild02 games are coming to the eShop in North America and Europe!

And that means we get to play this game by Boku no Natsuyasumi creator Kazu Ayabe, about being a 10-year-old boy living an everyday life in a small Japanese town… that is overrun by kaiju every Friday afternoon.

Other games in the collection include Bugs vs. Tanks, a shooter about a tiny, tiny tank by former Mega Man series producer Keiji Inafune, and The Starship Damrey, a suspense adventure game by the Kamaitachi no Yoru creators, in which you’re an amnesiac who wakes up in the dark on a spaceship. Man, the Guild series is so eclectic! That’s awesome!

If you’re missing out on any of the previous Guild games, they just happen to be on sale this week! And if you’re interested in Ayabe, you should maybe look forward to Scroll #10!

So that’s why Shin Megami Tensei 4 is $50
I might argue that $50 for a role-playing game that will probably last over 100 hours is worth it, but regardless, the “premium” $50 price tag Atlus put on Shin Megami Tensei 4 seemed unusual.
Until I saw what they’re doing. Each copy of the first printing comes with all this stuff, including a huge strategy/design book and an SMT series soundtrack.
Of course, it’ll probably still be $50 after that printing, when all you’ll get is a giant RPG.

Virtual Boy 3DS XL skin by GameThemedThings

What a simple, clever way to decorate a (red) 3DS XL! Of course, one problem with Virtual Boy references is that they’re inherently limiting; not that many people are going to recognize the look…

Nintendo Game Seminar returns!
Focused on the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript-based Nintendo Web Framework for Wii U, Nintendo is restarting its “Nintendo Game Seminar” program, a classroom instruction program featuring lectures by Nintendo staff, that results in the creation of new Nintendo games.
This time, in addition to classrooms in Tokyo and Osaka, Nintendo will offer online viewing of lectures to participants in more remote locations (or, I guess, in Kyoto where NCL is located!)
Past Nintendo Game Seminars have resulted in DS games that were only released through Download Play in Japan. Hopefully Nintendo’s desperate need for Wii U games will lead them to release some of the games from this seminar worldwide…

Korg M01D for 3DS

Detune, Ltd. is still doing Korg emulators for Nintendo handhelds! Because Detune is very, very cool.

Korg M01D is an updated 3DS version of the Korg M01 software for DS, which emulates the Korg M1, a thing that someone who knows something about music might recognize.

“The song data and MIDI data can be saved to an SD card so the KORG M01D can be used as a sketchpad. You can preserve all of your musical ideas which can be later converted to your DAW system for more serious music production. In addition, anyone can exchange song data using Nintendo 3DS Wi-Fi via the Internet.”

I bought Korg DS-10 back in the day, and I didn’t know what the hell I was doing. But it was really neat! This one is due on the eShop “worldwide” this summer.
