“I thought it would be a good idea to have a song that conveyed feelings of sweet and bitter memories of youth (“Seishun” in Japanese). High school students have so much going on in their lives. They have crushes, they are studying for exams, they’re practicing for band practice, and they are hanging out with friends drinking melon soda (melon is a common flavor of soda in Japan). So I think it is okay for them to make small mistakes in their performance. Actually, it’s better to make mistakes. They are young and have a lot to learn, but at the same time you can feel that spark of excitement inside of them.”

Katamari Damacy series composer Yu Miyake in an OSV interview, on his choice to include a medley of Katamari tunes performed by the Horikoshi High School marching band as “Scorching Savanna High School Performance,” for Katamari Forever. Good to know that the man is pretty much as quirky as everything else around the game.

Here’s the song:

“A Crimson Rose and a Gin Tonic” by YMCK, from the Katamari Forever soundtrack. This is the last YMCK video for a while, but I was reminded of this last week when I was looking for new YMCK content, and I had to post it.

If my YMCK posts last week were a response to a kind of crummy (for no reason) week, let’s say this one, which combines two of my favorite things ever (Katamari and YMCK) is going to help us start this week off right. Or something.

Wonderful Katamari Forever trailer. I love just about everything about this trailer (except that it’s for a PS3 game, and thus a cruel taunt against people with normal amounts of money), but I think what I love best is that there was someone at Namco producing little animal puppets and stages for this, and rolling a little Prince around. That was somebody’s job.
