Kid Icarus: Uprising’s heart-betting, intensity system explained. It seems like a great concept, but I am terrible at anything that involves dodging stuff, so I am going to miss out on all the impressive rewards you can earn.

“Oh, you got a wicked samurai blade after beating the stage, and now you have +99 to slicing somebody’s face off? Uh, I got this stick with a piece of poo on the end.”

If you’re interested in the game and haven’t yet read this huge collection of Uprising details, do so now!

Kid Icarus: Uprising trailer featuring Dark Pit, air/land combat, and… a space dragon? That came out of nowhere.

As action-packed as this looks, I’m still not convinced that I need to have the game and its bundled stand in my life. The thing is, I really want to play the prettied up 3D Classics: Kid Icarus, and Nintendo of America is giving out download codes for that to people who preorder Uprising at select retailers (specific stores not identified yet).

It’s a devious way to get people to preorder Uprising! Meanwhile, people in Japan and Europe receive 3D Classics: Kid Icarus for free just for buying and registering two select 3DS games. No such luck for us!

Kid Icarus: Uprising’s box is getting the Kirby treatment for the States — no smiles over here, it’s all scowls!

Oh, and you know that goofy stand accessory, the one that’s coming bundled with Uprising in Japan because Sakurai designed a game that plays janky without it (according to what I’ve heard from people who’ve played early builds)? Nintendo revealed to Shacknews that they will come with each copy in the U.S., too.

3DS stand bundled with Kid Icarus: Uprising in Japan.

Along with its support for the Circle Pad Pro/Frankenstick add-on (which appears to only be for left-handed play, not necessarily for a dual-stick control option that replaces the analog pad/touchscreen setup), this game will have a stand to improve its play experience.

I presume it’s to keep your portable still while you hold it with one hand and tap on the touchscreen, so the stereoscopic 3D effect isn’t broken? Or to make sure the system doesn’t put too much strain on your wrist, since you’ll be holding it with one hand? It seems like dual-stick support with Circle Pad Pro would have fixed this…

Whatever the reason, it just increases my worry over Kid Icarus: Uprising, which I’ve already had doubts about given the unfavorable preview impressions I’ve heard.

3D Classics: Kid Icarus trailer. It’s Kid Icarus with… backgrounds! This is seriously mind-blowing stuff. I’m not even being sarcastic, either. This game looks awesome with even static backgrounds. I’m genuinely impressed. They look kind of better than the NES could do, giving it a PC Engine-esque look. I’m so down for this.

If you’re in Europe, and you buy and register two select 3DS games between now and January 31, you’ll get this for free! In fact, just like Japan’s offer, this news is accompanied by a Club Nintendo giveaway of Mario-themed 3DS systems. When you register those two games, you’ll be entered!

Art promoting the planned Kid Icarus: Uprising animated shorts from Production I.G., Shaft, and Studio 4℃.

Details posted by NeoGAF’s Masked Man:

The anime by Production I.G (known for such works as “Ghost in the Shell”) will feature Pit as the main character. An orthodox 3D action title mixing human artillery, Medusa’s lackeys, and Thanatos, God of Death. Scheduled for three (3) episodes.

My Twitter was all abuzz while “Madoka Magica” was on the air. Shaft’s comical mini-series sets Palutena, Goddess of Light, as the main character. Perhaps this sort of thing is their specialty. Cheerful and amusing. Scheduled for two (2) episodes.

Studio 4℃, whose art style is so full of personality (e.g. “MEMORIES,” “Animatrix”), are focusing on Medusa. They’re visually portraying her actions from the past up until her comeback. Scheduled for one (1) episode.

Devil Survivor: OC, Kid Icarus, and Ocarina of Time 3D due sometime after early June

Nintendo of America revealed yesterday that marquee titles Kid Icarus: Uprising and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D will ship sometime after “early June” which I’m sure is disappointing for those hoping to pick them up shortly after the 3DS’s release, and especially embittering for the delusional folks who expected them to be out on the system’s launch day.

It makes sense considering Nintendo has three other major first-party titles that look ready to release sooner — Nintendogs + Cats, Steel Diver, and Pilotwings Resort. They might not cater to everyone’s whims, but that’s why the system will be depending on third-party developers to step up. Plus, the company wants to spread out its offerings to prevent long droughts of quality games.

But anyway! Also coming to the U.S. this summer, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overlocked, the 3DS remake of 2009 DS SRPG Devil Survivor with remastered artwork, voice acting, and a special eighth chapter. Atlus provided us with new English cutscene screens:

New shirts from Meat Bun! The theme of this collection is “Wizards ‘n Warriors,” but this seems to have more “utterly fucked-up mashups” than Elrondian knights.

The five new shirts (each available in multiple colors for $24) include things like Golden Axe’s Gilius Thunderhead — who I definitely never thought would be immortalized on a t-shirt — as well as elements from issue 2 of Nintendo Power, and a thoroughly mind-blowing combination of Peanuts, Kid Icarus, and Castlevania II. No, really. That’s a thing you can buy from the internet and put on your body.

This papercraft Kid Icarus diorama looks like it would be super-easy to make, thanks to the flat, square sprite cutouts and plain rectangular platforms, but it would also look awesome on a shelf. A winning combination for people who don’t have any damn spare time!
