Tiny Cartridge 3DS

Rhythm Heaven Fever for $13.90
For one more day, Play-Asia is offering a special sale price on the North American version of the Wii rhythm action game. Yes, there were awesome Wii games in 2012 that weren’t fan campaign-backed RPGs!
Kirby Mass Attack is also on sale, at the same price, for the same time period. I keep typing “Kirby Mass Effect,” and then I keep reading it as “Kirby Das EFX.”

Whoa, remember the Wii’s Nintendo Channel? How, like, you could load up DS demos to stream to your system via Download Play? Well, while we were all busy forgetting about it (and I don’t mean this in a “hurr dust off your Wii” way, only that the Nintendo Channel demo service got into a rut for a really long time), Nintendo has posted a demo of Kirby: Mass Attack.

This is definitely the kind of game that benefits from a demo; after all, you might like Kirby games, but that’s no guarantee you’re going to like a side-scrolling action-strategy game thing.

Kirby: Mass Attack’s North American boxart. Angry American Kirby is back!
I don’t think this boxart is bad, aside from the angry Kirby; it’s colorful, and it’s got Kirbies all over the damn place. But, as usual, it’s not as magical as the Japanese boxart:

This one’s got Angry Kirby too, but he’s not quite as front-and-center, and there aren’t as many Angry Kirbies.

Japanese Kirby: Mass Attack commercial. After some initial skepticism, I liked my E3 demo of this game, but couldn’t quite get a handle on what it reminded me of.

Watching this, I realize that the action/strategy game to which it bears the closest resemblance is my beloved Little King’s Story. Something about the way the crowd of little guys tears up the landscape in a flurry of activity reminds me of that game more than it does, say, Pikmin.

So I’m probably going to like it.

Lovely music from Kirby Mass Attack. I don’t know how I missed this song from the sidescrolling strategy game’s E3 2011 trailer, but it’s a charming tune. It sounds like what you’d hear if the Lollipop Guild got back together to put down a new track and welcome you to Mass Attack land.

Speaking of Kirby Mass Attack, Nintendo updated its official Japanese site to add new gameplay/system clips.
