Super limited edition Mega Charixard X 3DS XL ⊟
This was given out as the prize for Japan’s recent Dragon King tournament — only one was produced, and it features the winner’s name on the back, according to a report from Serebii.
[Update: It looks like two were made for two winners?]
Even if you lived in Japan, you probably wouldn’t have been eligible to win this, as the tournament was for grade-school-age students there. Players competed with both the trading card game and Pokemon XY using at least one Dragon-type creature in their party, which is a neat idea. The winner is pretty much the best multi-platform Pokemon Dragon trainer.
Two special edition Pokémon Battle Trozei 3DS XLs ⊟
Here’s a pair of very limited edition consoles being given away in Japan to celebrate the release of eShop-only puzzler Pokémon Battle Trozei. They’re serving as prizes for contests held by Japan’s CoroCoro magazine and Pokémon Daisuki Club website, according to Serebii.
Here’s the back of the Yoshi 3DS XL ⊟
I’m coming around to this limited edition system’s design — the eggs on the white back are cute. Nintendo of America formally announced the hardware this morning, pricing it at $199 for a March 14 release. As we suspected, the system does not include a digital or physical copy of Yoshi’s New Island.
[Update (thanks to @MikeMcWhertor): The URL for this post tho..]
PREORDER Yoshi's New Island, upcoming games
Looks like Yoshi 3DS XL will head to U.S. too ⊟
The unimaginative special edition Yoshi 3DS XL that’s headed to Europe will likely release in North America on March 13 for $199.99, according to this alleged Toys R Us circular. If our version is like Europe’s, the system won’t include the game, which is :o/
I totally forgot that Yoshi’s New Island is out in less than two weeks. I don’t think I’ve been nearly as pessimistic about the game as
Fran others — I’m hoping that what Arzest delivers is more exciting than this 3DS’s design!

Ten 3DS things you might have missed from today’s Nintendo Directs ⊟
Especially if you only watched the North American presentation, and you didn’t follow-up on all the stuff announced/revealed after the streams ended.
1. There’s a Yoshi 3DS XL system (no game included) coming out in Europe on March 14. As you can see, they did not go for our idea of making the system look like an egg, and the stylus like Yoshi’s tongue.
2. And Monster Hunter 4 will get yet another special edition Nintendo 3DS XL (based on Rajang) in Japan on March 27.
Special edition Theatrhythm: Curtain Call 3DS XL ⊟
Oh, that is nice. This is part of a limited edition bundle that will release with the game in Japan on April 24. Still no plans for a Western release announced, though a trademark filing for the game did pop up in Europe.
This Wal-Mart deal doesn’t quite match the awesomeness of Target’s identically priced Zelda 3DS XL bundle a few weeks ago, but at least this one won’t end with someone stealing your credit card info (maybe).
The online sale includes the limited edition silver 3DS XL, a digital copy of Mario & Luigi: Dream Team installed, a 4GB SD card, and free shipping. Speaking of game deals from the brothers Mario, here are some on Amazon:
- Paper Mario: Sticker Star - $21.98
- New Super Mario Bros. 2 - $29.99
- Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon - $30.74
If you want Mario Party: Island Tour, that’s also discounted to $33.61.
Custom Famicom 3DS XL ⊟
WayForward’s James Montagna put together this rad Famicom-color 3DS XL using, it looks like, a Zelda 3DS XL and a red one. It’s pictured here among his other Famicom-style handhelds and some business card cases.
Bold move, taking apart the sought-after Zelda 3DS XL!
Apparently it’s Cyber Monday of Luigi ⊟
That’s according to a press release Nintendo sent out for the limited edition Mario & Luigi: Dream Team 3DS XL bundle, which comes out today ($199.99, though Best Buy has it for $20 cheaper, and Walmart is selling it with two free 3DS games). Images above are via Favocado.
I am told that “Cyber Monday of Luigi” is not what I think it is, so instead of sharing the gigs of salacious Luigi pics I’ve saved over the years, I’ll just list the notable online sales we’re seeing for games today:
Nintendo 3DS XL Red (Overstock) - $139.99
- 3DS XL Red or Blue with StarFox 64 3D (Toys R Us) - $169.99
- Paper Mario: Sticker Star (Walmart) - $9.99
- Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate (3DS and PS Vita) - $24.99
- Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition (Wii U) - $8.50
- PS Vita Walking Dead system bundle (includes Sly Cooper, Retro City Rampage, and Uncharted) - $179.99
PS Vita 16GB memory card - $19.99
- Killzone: Mercenary - $19.99
- Persona 4 Golden - $19.99
- Dragon’s Crown - $29.99
- Tearaway - $29.99
- LittleBigPlanet, Unit 13, Resistance: Burning Skies, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, and Gravity Rush - $9.99 each
- Kingdom Hearts 1.5HD Remix (PlayStation 3) - $19.99
Instead of putting up a bunch of sales posts, I’ll try to add new deals to this one. You can also follow us on Twitter for updates on new discounts, or if you want to send us dirty Cyber Monday of Luigi tweets.
New LovePlus+ boxart and 3DS XL ⊟
I almost forgot that Konami announced another one of these updated games for the dating sim series. I always find the odd text on the packaging for these releases amusing: “We travel 365 days a year. Laughing in the rain, holding your hand under the sun. Our journey has just begun… LOVEPLUS”
No surprise that there will be three limited edition 3DS XLs for each of the game’s love interests, which Konami seems to do with each update. When these hit Japan next spring, each ¥32,000 ($320) set will include “the game, a 40-page visual & creation book, an illustration sheet with drawings of the lady in question, and a binaural CD with ten minutes of her engaging in intimate conversation with you,” according to Crunchyroll.
Beautiful Dragon Quest Monsters 2 3DS XL ⊟
I’ll limit my grumbles about the lack of any Dragon Quest games releasing in the West to just this sentence here. This is a really nice limited edition system, almost as pretty as the last Dragon Quest Monsters 3DS.
Zelda 3DS XL out in North America Nov. 22 ⊟
It’s official, no longer the domain of leaked GameStop sale circulars. Nintendo of America will release that amazing The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds 3DS XL bundle on November 22 for $219.99. It includes a download of the game.
If past 3DS XL bundles are any indication, this thing might become hard to find very quickly!
