Gyakuten Kenji Premium Edition DSi.

This is easily the most attractive branded DSi yet — if only it didn’t cost $299 to import, I’m sure you would be all over this. The cheaper but still crazy expensive Gyakuten Kenji e-Capcom Limited Edition bundle is also impressive:

Preorder Gyakuten Kenji DSi →

This Premium Edition system will set you back $299! That’s a crazy prize considering it doesn’t have all the extras included with the less expensive but still ridiculously priced Gyakuten Kenji e-Capcom Limited Edition ($149). The hardware bundle does, however, come with a copy of the game, and will ship on May 29th.

Gameboy Light Famitsu Skeleton box.

I’ve seen this special edition system before (of which only 5,000 were produced), but this is the first time I’ve come across it in this black box. Apparently, this is the “Mail Order Version” of the handheld.

The “Event Version” is the one I’m more familiar with, its packaging pairing a whimsically drawn redhead astronaut with a bullet list of features rife with sexual innuendo.

The Mail Order and Event editions are essentially the same — though the latter is marked with a unique number on its packaging — both feature a clear shell and white buttons. As with the Japan-only Game Boy Light, which was about the same size as the Game Boy Pocket but included a backlight and used 2 AA batteries, the Famitsu versions were never released in the States.

You should definitely add this to your “potential things to buy Eric for his birthday” list.

Liberty City Gun Club found!

In case you’re still wondering where to find Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars’ Liberty City Gun Club, what with the stream of pop-up messages inviting you to check the firing range out, here’s its exact location.

I picked up the game last Friday, and it’s much better than I expected, even with all the favorable site reviews and forum impressions. I’m also surprised by how much the drug dealing mechanic has added — barreling down city streets in a beat-up Comet towards the nearest safehouse with $30K worth of heroin tucked in a duffel bag on the passenger seat, as Liberty City’s finest chases behind you, sirens blaring, is a unique experience for the DS.

If you haven’t picked it up yet, Amazon has it on sale for $29.99 (free shipping), a bit cheaper than Gamestop’s $35.

Oh yeah, and here’s another custom Chinatown Wars DS Lite system spotted at the Nintendo World Store:

This one looks a lot better than the Huang Lee version!

Nintendo DSi wallpaper, for those of you dripping with anticipation as the system’s early April release approaches. It’s a shame the White model isn’t announced for the U.S.!

In related news, Square Enix finally displayed its Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days limited edition DSi hardware, part of a system+game bundle shipping in Japan at the end of May for ¥24,880 ($250):

Yeah, it’s not the most attractive handheld, which is why I led this post with the wallpaper. It’s very unlikely that this edition will ever cross the Pacific, so at least we can let it slip out of our minds shortly after the game releases.

Original Game Boy (White).

I had no idea this White version existed, or that it looked this stunning, but that might have to do with it being a limited edition 1995 system released only in Japan.

Chiptune artist Logan “Low-Gain” Erickson, who captured the above photo, recently sold this White handheld in a set with eight other Game Boys — which included the also rare, Europe-only Blue and Manchester United models, along with the entire Play It Loud series — for $350.

If any of you are in need of birthday gift ideas for me (July will be here before you know it!), I would be satisfied with just the White system. ;o)

Gyakuten Kenji phone straps. On the left, the Blue Badger strap, which is available now from e-capcom.com. On the right, the awesome Steel Samurai strap, which is super-unavailable: not only is it part of the gigantic, overstuffed limited-edition for the DS point-and-click spinoff, but it was an early reservation gift that is no longer being offered.

HOLD IT! (so you don’t drop your phone)

Monster Hunter G Classic Controller.

Capcom is looking to release this branded controller — possibly the first officially released colored/branded controller for the Wii? — along with a copy of PSP/PS2 port Monster Hunter G on April 23rd for ¥5220 ($59).

The game will also be available by itself for ¥3990 ($45) and will include a demo for Monster Hunter 3.

It’s a really slick looking controller, even if the big G looks like pieces taken from a tangram puzzle.
